“Wonderful stopping off spot at 'The Borders'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2012

We booked last minute at Balgownie House. Less than 24 hours - but due to a cancellation they could accommodate our request. Great price, we stayed in a lovely room, big bed, spotlessly clean and with great views. Breakfast was faultless - a fresh, bountiful spread, with added touches like homemade jams and marmalade. Louise made us very welcome - really hope to return soon, it's a lovely part of the country - made extra special by the warm hospitality.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

Stayed slightly out of season (22 - 27 March 2012) in the self catering accommodation. Mine hosts kindly arranging this beforehand as they had to depart mid way through our stay on other business and our bona fides were established by having a married daughter in the area.
We know the area well as we have visited St Boswells numerous times. The weather was unseasonably fantastic with temperatures in the twenties and wall to wall sunshine.

Accommodation, management, grounds, facilities and services were exemplary. My wife and I had the run of a complex with two bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and dining area, bathroom and lavatory. Tastefully decorated throughout, deeply comfortable (think leather sofas, a million cushions, heavy drapery, massive beds, thick carpets, soft lighting etc). 3TV's, washing machine, tumble drier, fridge/freezer, microwave, oven etc in a well appointed kitchen. Huge varied gardens (south, west and east facing) with outside furniture and superb views -10 mile plus - of the area. Tranquil and rural with multiple local places of interest and good roads to those further afield. Kirk, agricultural college and lovely garden centre in juxtaposition.
We were afforded a genuine warm welcome on arrival - including home baked bread, cake and jam.
In 40 plus years of our B&B-ing and hotels, Balgownie seriously rates a triple A, 5-star. Can't really be described with any comprehensive accuracy.............just go!
If the Borders and its attractions are for you, Balgownie is an absolute must.
Well done team Balgownie.

Room Tip: Even the hallway is terrific !

We had 8 friends staying here for 1 and 2 night stays. We went to view the bed and breakfast before booking our friends in and the rooms were decorated beautifully and were spotless. We booked everyone in immediately.

All 8 of our friends could not praise this bed and breakfast high enough, they said it was very friendle especially Louise the owner and great breakfast. So when they return they will all be staying here again infact 1 couple are already booked for October.

My friend and I stayed here on our first leg of walking St Cuthbert's Way. I'd booked the room in advance and the owner, Louise, couldn't have been more helpful. She even offered to pick up our bags from Melrose to save us carrying them. The accommodation was roomy and spotless. Lovely touches such as the homemade bread and preserves at breakfast. The bed and breakfast is just a short walk from St Boswell's where the hotel provides a good meal and where the walk passes. Louise left us there in the morning to start the walk. Balgownie House was a great place to stay; the owners were friendly and so accommodating yet unobtrusive. Thoroughly recommended.
