“Lovely lunch”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

We have a lovely lunch in the courtyard of this lovely pub on one of the few sunny days we have had this year. As the sun was out we thought we would google somewhere new to go and arrived without a reservation. It is located down a quiet country lane right on the nature reserve. We were very lucky to get the last table in the courtyard and were very glad as the food was wonderful, it is not pub prices but it is not pub food either, it has been a while since I have enjoyed lunch so much. I had a lovely locally caught crab salad. I will certainly be returning. The other plus is that they do not allow smoking in the courtyard and so can enjoy dining outside.

Room Tip: Did not stay only dined.

Stayed here for two nights with my husband for a birthday treat and loved it ! We arrived late on Friday after a long drive and were shown up to our room by a cheerful, smiling young waitress. She said our table would be ready for us when we wanted so I didn't feel hassled to rush down to eat. We had a standard room with lovely views over open fields and long stretches of the marshy harbour (now a nature reserve). The room was not enormous but we had everything we wanted and very comfortable bedding and soft pillows. I could have done with a slightly larger bed as we are both tall people and have a 6ft bed at home! The bathroom was fine with a lovely rain shower over the bath and a hot towel rail which is great if keeping the same towel for 2 days to save the planet from too much unnecessary washing!

Dinner on both nights was delicious and the staff were very friendly and efficient - mostly young and attractive and very well presented! The accent was on fish , which we had both nights, but there are also meaty choices. They had a delicious Sauvignon Blanc served very cold in a stunning wine glass - it just seemed to taste much better than the usual! I was told the wine glasses came from Italy so I'm on a hunt to buy some for home!

Breakfast was lovely and relaxed with proper fresh squeezed orange juice and little pots of French butter (very stylish) good choice of cooked breakfast plus fresh fruit, smart Dorset cereals and yoghurts. Sadly the weather was not up to siting outside with the usual wind, sun and rain that has dominated this Summer. The garden area at the back looked lovely and hopefully if we went back again we could sit ouside.

There are lovely walks in this remote area of West Sussex and we also went to the Chichester Festival Theatre to see a wonderful production of 'Kiss me Kate'. All in all it was a memorable weekend.

Room Tip: The top room (attic style) is the largest and classed DE LUXE so more expensive. The standard room...

My wife and I, 55-65 age group, had an evening meal midweek at The Crab And Lobster in July 2012, whilst on holiday in the area.

It was a lovely summer's evening and we were able to sit outside on the terrace. The location is at the edge of the village by the countryside, so is really quiet (although no view from the pub as screened by a hedge (which is no doubt an advantage on breezy evenings)). The inside also looked very comfortable.

Service was excellent - the owner/manager creates a very positive atmosphere and the staff are pleasant and attentive.

The quality of food was really good, well presented and using local ingredients where possible. The pace felt about right. The real ales were well kept.

Not a cheap meal, but good value for the quality on offer.

We would be very happy indeed to return if in the area.

We booked for 1 night overhere, and this is exactly what we were looking for : an inn in a very tiny little village, almost no traffic, quiet all around, great spots around to take a long evening walk, the right atmosphere at the right moment and lot's of charm.

We had the upper room, a bit expensive but of course giving a lot of (too much) space.. we slept very well in the great bed.

The food and the service in the restaurant were outstanding, really great, and all our thanks to the excellent 'maitre d'hotel' (or how should we call the guy being in charge in this place ?) as he made us feel very welcome and made sure service was impeccable.

This was on our 3 day tour in England our most charming stay and we will certainly come back on a next journey !! We would recommend this to everyone .

Just returned from a fabulous meal at the Crab and Lobster. Everything is perfect about this place, the location, the food and the service. The location is down by the sea in the tiny quiet village of Sidlesham, West Sussex and on a sunny day you couldn't be anywhere nicer. They have tables in the garden overlooking the field behind and tables inside in a cosy dining room (perfect for a winter's day). As would be expected for a coastal restaurant, there is a focus on seafood and Selsey crab and local lobster were both featured on the menu along with other locally sourced food. The presentation is impeccable, each meal is almost a work of art. The wine menu is extensive and the greatest thing about this restaurant is that it's also a boutique hotel so you don't even have to drive home.

Recently stayed in the Crab & Lobster and was delighted with both the room and setting. Stayed in the loft room which was very tastefully decorated and had some nice touches - a vase of beautiful fresh flowers and great Ren toiletries. The Inn only has 4 rooms, plus a cottage, which makes it great for a getaway. Pagham harbour is right outside and makes for great walks. We had both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and were super impressed with the quality of the food and the excellent wine list (including by the glass). Would certainly stay again and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: The loft room is fab - but maybe not if you are over 6ft!

Lovely pub with superb food, staff are warm and friendly and the menu has a good selection of outstanding choices. We were made to feel very welcome, its a bit off the beaten track but well worth it when you get there. Long may it continue.
