The cottage was cosy and warm with good amenities. Very clean and quaint. However we did find the shower was a problem, it kept going cold and the water only trickled out, other than that everything was excellent.
Very cosy cottage with amazing views. We loved the rural setting and very convenient location for the variuos trips we undertook.
We recently stayed in Oak Cottage for a long weekend. The owners are very welcoming and provided comprehensive pre visit directions, help and guidance which made life much easier. The cottage is spacious and comfortable with plenty of room. The facilities were absolutely fine and we were able to cook. The location is ideal set in the Kent countryside with lovely views. It is a good starting point for touring Kent with easy access from Rye right round the coast to Whitstable and the Isle of Sheppey.
Myself and friends have been to a lot of cottages and this one was quite good. Nigel was very efficient in communicating with me via email before our arrival.
Getting there was slightly complex but the directions sent by Nigel really helped. The cottage is located fairly close to good Kent spots. It took us 20 minutes to get to Leeds Castle and 45 minutes to Dover Castle. Canterbury is not far either so the location is really quite nice.
The actual cottage was not quite what we expected from the pictures. For example, the nice rug you see in the living room is not there so it's wood floors and stone in the kitchen area. As it was March it was quite cold and the heating upstairs is good as it;s a radiator but downstairs is not so great as it's an air blowing unit which was noisy...
The kitchen space is very tight so if you're big on cooking you may find it hard. All the appliances were in a good state but the space is very limiting.
The shower was not amazing if we're honest. It's electric which is great but does go cold as you wash so can be an unexpected surprise.
The rooms upstairs are very cosy. The main bedroom is very spacious. Worth noting that the 2nd bedroom goes through the main bedroom which was not 100% clear form the pictures, So people staying in the 2nd bedroom would have to essentially walk through the main one to get downstairs. It was not an issue for us but worth noting.
Nigel was good at greeting us and showing us around. We had a couple of questions which were answered. The surrounding area has some nice walks and there are chickens and ducks and dogs wondering around.
Sadly the view from our window was not as great as we expected but it was due to re innovation work being undertaken to make a nice garden for all your future visitors. There will also be a hot tub soon! Or so we were told...
There is also a small pond which was lovely.
Overall a good stay. We were left to ourselves and it's a nice quiet area.
Myself and my wife decided to have a few days away at short notice and found Oak Cottage on TripAdvisor. The enquiry was responded to same day and we booked it up for a 3 night stay.
The owners are a lovely couple and made sure we had everything we needed while staying. The cottage itself was lovely and very homely and well equipped for a self catered stay. The grounds the cottage is set in are lovely and peaceful and the stay was very relaxing which is exactly what we wanted. In fact, we had such a nice time we ended up extending the stay by a further two nights.
We will definitely return for another stay at some point soon and with some further additions in the pipeline it sounds like it will be getting even better.
We spent a week in this beautiful cottage. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
As we arrived on a Sunday we popped into the small farm shop down the road to get some essentials for an evening meal, although there were plenty of places within a few mile drive where we could have eaten, we weren't going to chance it without prior booking as most places tend to shut early for food on a Sunday.
We used this place as a base to explore Kent which we can see why it's known as the Garden of England. There is so much to see and do in the local area. Anyone who is visiting the locations around the place I would highly recommend popping into a local tourist information centre and collecting some of the booklets they have containing vouchers, we saved ourselves a lot of money in doing this as we got into the places we wanted to as 2 for 1.
The cottage itself had everything we could hope for and more. There is an outdoor pool which we braved on our first day, this was really nice and made a change from chemical filled ones. A washing machine in the shower room was very helpful as we didn't have a huge pile of washing to do on returning home. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc, there wasn't anything that we needed, it was all there. The dresser had a good choice of books although we didn't have time to read any, there was also a few DVDs to watch too. There was a Wi-Fi internet connection, although our phone signal (Giff Gaff) was weak most of the time, not a problem as we didn't want to be making lots of phone calls, we went to get away from the norm. If you're arriving and it's going to be dark make sure you have a torch or light of some kind as it is a little bit of a walk from the car parking area to the cottage itself and you have to negotiate some steps. The animals in the fields were lovely to see too, look out for chickens as you enter the property as they get everywhere :)
The only thing we would liked to have seen improved was the view from the bedroom window. The garden was very unkempt and we feel that a gardener popping in once or twice a week would soon have this looking great. We both said how nice it would have been to be able to have had some sort of fruit growing there or similar.
Without a doubt we would return to this fabulous location and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a peaceful stay away from the chaos of town and city life.
