“Magical, beautiful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2014

Our fourth visit (which really sums it up) to this gorgeous place and hope it won't be the last. The views from the terrace and the pool are perfect. It's set in its own estate so there's an enormous amount of space. The tranquility absolute, the rooms and bathrooms superb (best sleeps we have had in a long time) and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

Lovely just to sit, watch and absorb the beauty of your surroundings. Visit the waterfall, swim, or float about in the pool and remember what it is like to relax and enjoy nature at it's glorious best.
What ever age you are, we travelled with half a dozen smallish children, you will love this place.
If you stay here as part of a longer trip, Udawelawa is about one and a half hours drive and we got to Aragam bay in a little over two hours. Yala is also just two hours away and from there you have the whole of the south coast to explore!
From Colombo it will take probably at least five hours to get to Koslanda but the drive itself is stunning and with such a beautiful place awaiting you at the end of it's well worth the trip.

Room Tip: All rooms pretty much equally good

Wow. Koslanda turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. We arrived at night after a long day of driving, and were met at the front gate by a kind staff person with a flashlight. The jungle around us was lush, and were it nor for our guide I would have wondered if we were lost. It was not until the next morning that we realized how very beautiful the hotel property was. We felt like we had arrived at heaven.

Our room was very large and well appointed, and our living space include what was basically its own zen garden. The hotel (a former residence) is quite small which makes it very intimate. You are surrounded by green trees and grass and jungle all around.

The restaurant--open air of course--served one great meal after another. The staff bent over backwards to meet our every desire, including serving non-spicy (curry) alternatives for our 8 year old daughter. We have asked the staff to give us a curry cooking demonstration, which they were happy to accommodate.

The staff was highly professional and eager to please. In fact, if I were to make a slight criticism, there were times when they were so attentive it because a bit distracting. Since this was all in the spirit of making our stay enjoyable, we took it all in stride.

I can't complete this review without mentioning the pool. It's usually very hot in Sri Lanka and having access to a pool during travel can be a life saver. In short order, my daughter wanted to go to the pool. The staff offered to walk us there, which we thought a bit odd, until we realized it was a short but hidden walk up the hill to the top of the mountain. When we got there we were stunned to see how beautiful it was. Large, clean, infinity pool with a breath taking view of the valley. It was a further slice of heaven.

Needless to say we highly recommend this hotel. If you are taking a down day in the tea country area, the is the prefect stop. It's so beautiful you won't want to leave.

Very nice boutique hotel in a remote area of Sri Lanka. Perfect design reflecting local artisitic traditions. Spacious rooms with an inside patio (mind no air conditioning). Absolutely fantastic swimming pool and "private" waterfall (beware of leeches along jungle track - protective shoes are essential).
Drawbacks: 1) food was rather mediocre. 2) rooms are not well maintained (minor fauts i.e. leaking ceiling, broken door hands etc).
All in all not cheap but worth spending a couple of days for a unique atmosphere.

Room Tip: all rooms are pretty the same. take a side one to enjoy a small separate terrace

A wonderfully, relaxing 3 night stay to re-charge the batteries. Amazing bedrooms and bathroom, very comfortable and private with all the amenities you will ever need; tv & dvd player, board games; tea & coffee; mini bar; mp3 stereo.

Set in a considerable sized plot of land, and nestled in a small valley, you are surrounded by tropical fauna, rolling hills, and majestic views. A rolling river and impressive waterfall is just a 15 minute walk away and highly recommended if you want to wash off those early morning cobwebs by going for a swim (which we did, twice). The infinity pool is another big plus, one of the best I've swam in in Sri Lanka with an amazing view looking out over the hills.

The staff were very helpful, Sandaruwan in particular was a lovely chap, very smiley and helpful. Breakfast was great; eggs, bacon, sausages, fresh fruit, cereal, the full works, and no costs cut with great quality jams and condiments. The lunch and dinner options were varied and tasty and the cheesecake and brownies were to die for.

All in all, a truly amazing stay, and we will be booking in here again on our next trip back to the area!

If you are looking for a quiet place to be in touch with nature you should stay at the Living Heritage. The rooms are exquisite with a courtyard entrance and beautiful wooden doors and furniture. The food is perfect and you have a choice of local and western cuisine. The service is wonderful and you will be well looked after. I recommend Living Heritage to those looking for a perfect holiday in the hills.

When we arrived after a long journey by car we got beautiful flowers and fresh juice as a welcome.
Its quiet, peaceful, and you hear only the noise of the birds, monkeys, and you see the most beautiful butterflies we have ever seen.

The food was good and the curry was the best we've had during our two week Sri Lankan holiday so far. They bring the lunch to the pool area, and we sit there the whole afternoon in peace enjoying the view.

We also had a lovely walk with a guide who told us about the trees and looked out for us so we would not stumble on the small rocks on the path. At the waterfall, we sat and dipped in the river.

Lucy, the owner; she is lovely and makes us feel so welcome and at home.

Do not stay just for two night, we would recommend staying at least 3 days.

Couple from Holland now on the way to Yala National Park

If only Koslanda were better located for sightseeing. The rooms are spectacular. You enter your accommodation through a doorway and come to a beautiful courtyard before entering a lovely bedroom. The service is great. Everything is done for your convenience. So why not 5 stars? Because we went here to use it as a base for sightseeing. The road, the A4, is not good and traveling from Koslanda to any place else is terribly time consuming. If you want to take a break from your sightseeing, do stay here.
