“Great place to stay in Bern”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

This hotel is a great place to stay in Bern, especially if you come by car. There is limited free parking and the tram into Bern is right outside the hotel. The hotel is positioned in a very pleasant part of Bern. One reaches Bern city centre in about 10 minutes. The trams go past every 10 minutes which is helpful. The hotel has a good restaurant and the rooms are spacious and clean, with a friendly atmosphere. Its very good position as well as its facilities, make this hotel a welcome find in Bern. We stayed in the old rooms, its noisy because the trams are going past outside, but pleasant, with a lovely big room. Its was a good stay. The breakfast was mediocre, powdered eggs! But otherwise adequate.

Frankly unacceptable for a 4 star hotel is the fact that there is no air conditioning at all. Also loads of basic conforts missing: I couldn't find a pen and a piece of paper in my room to write a phone number on, no bath tub, only a shower, the parking is extra to pay, and the pictures are misleading, the building on the pictures looks like it has a lot of charm, but actually you sleep in a modern building next door to that, which is sterile like a hospital room.

The Hotel does offer a great service for the business traveller. The Tram 6 does take you in 15 minutes to the city centre.

The hotel rooms are simple an clean, the bathroom offers much space and there are even balconys. Level 3 has one balcony for all rooms (they are all connected), which is a bit odd if you think of privacy and security.

The hotel has lost its old charme of the so called "Landhaus" style to the business meeting rooms. EWireless is available in all rooms (voucher available at the concierge, but limited to one device).
The breakfast is great, free newspapers are available in the breakfast rooms.
There are 5 free parking spaces in the back of the hotel, parking garage does cost 12€ per night.

The restaurant cusine is very good and not as expensive the ones in Bern. The wine collection is even good.

The price is from my point of view too high for the offers of the hotel, but it was already one of the cheaper ones in the area of Bern.
If you choose a business hotel with a good connection to the city, the hotel is a good choice, if you searching for a good hotel during your holiday with charme, don't choose this one.

The Hotel Sternen Muri is a decent hotel with proper rooms, a good restaurant and a bar that also serves a small menu. However, the look and feel of an old-fashioned "Landhaus" only applies to the main building. Most of the rooms are in an ugly extension that is well hidden from the advertising.

Sternen Muri is conveniently located just outside of Bern, at the main road with a tram and bus station just around the corner. Getting there is easy enough by public transportation as well as by car. The hotel is partly old guest-house, partly 70's hotel. It has only few parking spaces in front, but also a parking garage under the ugly extension. The old part of the hotel is all old-fashioned woodwork with a romantic feel. The main building has a restaurant area, as well as a "Gaststube".

Muri as a town hasn't got much to offer.

Check-in was fast and efficient. Staff was nice and friendly. Check-out was similarly pleasant.

Rooms in the old building are said to have a nice ambiance, but the rooms in the extension are of an average quality, though with sufficient amenities. Floor levels have their own color: green or blue. The blue, top level floor rooms at the back share a balcony: if you like to have a window open for fresh air this may make you feel uncomfortable, since anyone can come in. It is possible to lower the roller shutter to counter that. The green, lower floor rooms have their private balcony. I stayed at a top level backside room.

Door opened with a key card, directly into the bedroom. Bedroom has a chair, a desk, a low double bed with a thin comfortable mattress and pillows of the typical fluffy kind. A small closet and a mini bar underneath a big flatscreen TV. Bathroom was rather small, with toilet, shower cabinet and sink. All was clean. Limited toiletries: liquid soap from a squeeze bottle. Shower was good, with water pressure and temperature being fine.

No airconditioning. TV offers loads of digital channels. Internet with cable or wi-fi, but not free of charge. Coffee set also available. Everything is practical, but just average. Good for a one-night stay. Sounds from the bus and tram station can be heard, but not at an annoying level. Rooms are quiet.

A small evening meal in the bar was excellent. Nice ambiance. Very good service and, again, pleasant staff attending. Breakfast in buffet style, with bread, buns, an assortment of meat and cheese and the typical egg and bacon combination. Enough to choose from and of a decent quality.

I would not mind staying here again for business. For holidays or family stays, I would probably look elsewhere. I would not rate it a 4-star hotel. No complaints whatsoever, but it's just a plain, average hotel.

Room Tip: If you want the "landhaus" experience, book a room in the old main building. If you'd...

My husband and I and our teenage son stayed here for two nights and had such a relaxing time. The room was a decent size; the beds were very comfortable; the room and the bathroom were immaculate;there is a small refrigerator; and the neighborhood is nice and quiet. We slept with the window open and lay in bed and could hear the churchbells. The surrounding neighborhood was nice to take a walk in, and there is a bakery nearby. Since we were traveling with our son, we requested a cot when we made the reservation, and when we arrived, the cot was already set up in our room and had a nice, thick mattress and duvet. There is an extra charge for this but well worth it, and the room size supported the extra bed nicely. The hotel itself had a good breakfast and has a decent restaurant, although it's a little expensive. The hotel is just outside Bern and the tram stops just in front of the hotel, so it's a very convenient location. We enjoyed staying here much more than we would have liked staying in the city center where it's much noisier. The staff was also super nice, and we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a cot ahead of time if you need one.

We recently stayed here for a 2-day team offsite. The hotel is conveniently located, approximately 15 minutes by tram from the city of Berne.

Rooms are spacious, and food was good and traditional.

It is just a decent 3-4 star hotel in a quiet suburb of Berne.

Pleasantly surprised and only ten minutes from downtown Berne. The tram stops almost directly in front of the hotel. Hotel has its own little musical instrument museum which I did not see. But they could do with a bit more toiletries or a bathrobe. But a colleague lost her luggage at the airport and they at least supplied toothbrush and toothpaste.
