“Expensive but pretty”

The Blue Pool and Tea House
Reviewed October 27, 2011

Was astonished at the price, but it must be private land. We only really wanted to go in for a cup of tea, but made the most of our hour visit before closing. £5ish each.
Really very pretty blue/green pool. Last ones there so very quiet. Peaceful and thoughtful. Reflective.
Tea shop quait and old fashioned. Nothing out of the ordinary but much needed after hours walking in the rain before this visit! Nice bit of history from the little museam inside cafe. Gift shop seemed reasonable price. Were very proud of their 'loo of the year' awards. Would be after paying £10 for the privilidge.

We enjoyed the walk and the two little girls, aged 5 and 2, enjoyed spotting the squirrels and birds hidden along the trail, although they are beginning to look a little tired and in need of a coat of paintrequiring the adults to help locate them.

The girls enjoyed the play area as always.

However the tea rooms are very expensive.

We had a lovely time at the blue pool in Sept 2011. The pool is beautiful and is blue like they say. Took some great pictures, had a fab walked and sat on one of the hundreds of benches there and enjoyed the view and peaceful setting, only the odd tank shell disturbed the moment lol.

Cafe had some great cream teas but thought they were expensive at £8.90 for two with a pot of tea for two. Have paid more elsewhere but scones were much bigger and had twice as much clotted cream and jam.

Luckily we visited 'en masse' with various adults and small children so, with judicious use of a discount voucher and some group-shuffling, we paid an OK price. If just my husband, our son and I had gone it would've cost the same as two adults and up to FOUR children!? Go figure...

It's a shame, because this is very pleasant place to take young children, with various walks that are just long enough and picturesque enough (and on made-up gravel paths). A lack of rain had turnned the 'blue pool' into a bit of a 'brown puddle' at one end, but it was still very calm and tranquil (even with us lot around!).

The woodland play area is a good size - not so big that it's the main attraction, but an interesting enough diversion for young kids. Gift shop was as pricey as they usually are, and we didn't try the cafe. Loos were very clean, as was the whole of the park.

It would have been interesting to have learnt something of its mining past - and to have seen some 'before and after' photos.

Blue Water it ain't, but it is a lovely, calm place to take a walk (at the right price).
