“a hidden gem with unreal views in very scenic area of Ireland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2010

Stumbled upon this hotel after cancelling at the hostel up the road(another story), stayed in the annex section (motel style) of the Leenane Hotel. Rooms were spacious, central heating effective and bed comfortable, Walk next door to the hotel for a great evening meal and then back again in the morning for the full breakfast. View from front window was magnificent scenic view of the Killary (Ireland's only Fjiord), Staff were all friendly and room clean and tidy.

I was hiking the Western Way and what should I find as I entered the town of Leeane but a wonderful spa bath and delightful pub. Great way to take care of my feet and my stomach! The seaweed bath was just what I needed at the end of a long footsore day: beautiful scenery as I relaxed in a tub of hot salt water. Dinner was wonderful from the goat cheese and beet salad to fresh mackeral dinner topped off with a wonderful chocoate pudding! Would return again!

My wife and I have stayed on a number of of vists to the west most recently last month. we were with our Daughter and Grand Daughter on this visit.
On this trip we had to leave early due to family reasons and although we had booked for the 3 day offer we were only charged for the One night
The Leenane Hotel is what' Irish Hospitality" is all about. Here you are not A ROOM NUMBER but a visiting friend.
We have stayed in the new rooms which are surperb,but our favourites are the front old rooms overlooking the harbour which are full of charm but with all your requirements;

The food is great,fresh ingredients,and freshly cooked with a great choice.
Conor his loyal staff do great work the word problem is not in their vocabulary.

Who needs a big fancy reception area? If they are busy when you arrive just throw in your bags and say" SEE YE LATER" you will always get a bed and anyway in a emergency ,there are plenty of sofas in the lounge which are as big as any bed and you can lulled to sleep by one of your new friends playing the piano.

We are looking forward to our next visit and hopefully we will get snowed in so we can enjoy a few extra days

We almost cancelled,so bad were the reviews, but this would have been a huge mistake.Sure there are some things less than perfect about this hotel but that misses the point ;this is a charming old hotel in a spectacular location.The food was excellent and we'll always remember the beautiful view of the harbour and the mountains from our window.We stayed in the newer part of the hotel
The dining room and the lounge are old world and full of character.We felt that the hotel could really do with a lift,especially as some of the guests were older people.However any of them we spoke to were having such a good time it didn't seem to matter.Some of the guests were on their second or third visit which is always a good sign. There lots to see and do locally. Walk up to the village and visit the wool centre.We'll be back.

I had a lovely meal here last week. Super fresh Mackrel for starter, followed by delicious rack of lamb. Service was great - friendly and efficient. There was a lovely feel in the hotel generally, very warm, relaxed and a nice buzz about the place.

Before dinner I enjoyed the seaweed baths, just next door to the hotel. What an indulgence - to be able to lie back in the bath with a stunning view of Killary fjord. I thought it was great value too at just €25. My skin felt fantastic after it - I'll be back!

M y wife and I took advantage of the 3 night offer.and booked in from 16th to19th Aug 2010. Then we read some negitave reviews but since we had already booked we decided to go ahead anyway.We arrived 7-30pm to a busy hotel with the large dining room bustling and were pleasantly suprised when we were immediately shown to our table by a friendly waitress and given the menu for our 5 course meal .Each course was promptly served and the food was excellent.The bedroom and ensuite were very clean and the furniture very old, but we made allowances for a 200 + yearold hotel and were distracted most of the tim e anyway by the beautiful view from the bedroom window overlooking killary harbour with a backdrop of steep mountain slopes covered in green quilted velvet vegetation. All in all we considered the stay very good value. The only suggestion i would make to the management would be for someone to be at reception ang greet their guests when the arrive with a traditional Irish smile and cead mile failte instead of "do you want to check in" ( just a little point )

We have stayed on a couple of occasions the new rooms are amazing and the food is great the views are our of this world. The was music in the bar one of the nights we stayed much to the delight of a group of Italians. Great place. If I had to make a criticism. I wasn't gone on the meringue
