“Relaxing / Energetic Holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2014

Just back from my annual trip to the Leenane Hotel. As usual I have come back feeling very rested and looking forward to next years visit. We had a room that overlooked Killary Harbour so we had a wonderful view of the harbour and the mountains. Even though the weather wasn't great the view is always wonderful. The bar food is excellent with a good choice of food and a good wine selection. The only downside this year was the breakfast. It is buffet style and the food can be sitting there for a while. The fried eggs and scrambled eggs were overcooked. My friend said that the porridge was very thick but was surprising tasty once you added some cold milk to it. You can ask for poached eggs which are really good. The homemade brown bread is excellent - we all brought the recipe home.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking Killary Harbour which is to the front of the building. We had room 10 thi...

I have stayed here twice in the last year and have enjoyed both visits! The rooms are large and comfortable, both in the annex part of the hotel and in the original building. The hotel is perfectly situated for exploring the local area while also being in walking distance of some lovely restaurants and pubs which is a real bonus in Connemara. But I guess what I liked most about this hotel is the general quirkiness of the place, like getting coffee served in a tea pot ( not in a pretentious, vintage tea rooms kind of way) at breakfast and other little details like that which give this family run hotel a unique feel unlike many hotels I've stayed in. This is not a chain hotel and the slight imperfections really add to the charm of this old world hotel - and certainly the fact that there always appears to be plenty of people staying here seems to indicate that others agree!

We have been to this hotel many times over the last few years and have always found it very good. We weren't disappointed on our last visit as the food, staff and service were all excellent as always.

I often stop at the Lennane Hotel for Sunday lunch! The food is great especially the salmon.

Yesterday's trip was disappointing, the service has gone way downhill. Our waitress left us waiting 20 minutes with our menu after taking our drinks order and didn't come back. Eventually we went to the bar and asked to place our order. Instead she said she would come down and take our order- which resulted in a further 20 minute wait.

Eventually we got our slightly warm beers and our food. My partner ordered the burger which was nice. I had the steak sandwich- I wouldn't recommend it, I asked for medium rare and it was very well done.

As part of two large groups of people, I ate here on two separate occasions during the summer of 2013. We experienced (between the two tours) lunches in 12 hotels around Ireland. This was on both occasions one of the two best lunches we had. Really good food - recommended.

We checked into the Leenane Hotel for one night for a quick tour of the area before departing via Shannon. The area is without doubt stunning but the Leenane Hotel seem to be taking advantage of this popularity and robust business as the cleaniness of the rooms leave allot to be desired. Also, overflowing smelly bins were at the front of the hotel by the carpark, despite plenty of space at the back of the hotel. We felt an unpleasant itchiness on room arrival as it was just disgusting - daren't put a bare foot in the bathroom or the carpet of the room - see images that have been uploaded. We mentioned to a man, who was obviously Mgmt/Owner, on checkout the next morning that the rooms would benefit from a good cleaning. The response given was that the remark would be passed to housekeeping but made with an air of disinterest and complete lack of accountability. The Leenane Hotel Mgmt are complacent given the advantageous location. On balance, the food is absolutely delicious, all credit to the chef. We passed on this compliment when we ate there.

Room Tip: Slept poorly due to unhygenic room. Had visions of bugs crawling.

As a regular visitor, I can only say the Hotel gets better and better. Clean simple but very adequate rooms, friendly staff and owners. Great food, even on the special deal menu. Music in the bar on the Saturday night we went. What more could anyone want at this price?
