“Don't eat there....”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Went for lunch with my parents and sister after we were too late to eat at Kylemore Abbey, which incidentally is well worth a visit. The waitress looked blank when asked if there was wine. I think she asked, ‘red or white?’ Anyway, my sister picked a fairly decent mini bottle that was a bit chilly but satisfactory.
The fish and chips were the best dish at the table but apparently tasteless. The cheese & bacon burgers had one slice of bacon shared between the two of them. A bit mean, considering the price of +10E. I had the roast of the day - lamb which the waitress assured me was nice. It really wasn't. It certainly had not come from a joint of meat. It was reheated lamb slices in a tablespoon of grey gravy served with deep fried, yet uncooked whole potatoes, masquerading as roast ones. This was accompanied by broccoli that had been shown some hot water but might as well have come straight from the garden it was so uncooked and carrots subjected to the same quick shower method.
It is a shame that such a beautiful grand hotel in a jaw dropping location cannot provide good food at a reasonable price. I felt like a tourist being taken for a fool. The only reason they are getting two stars and not one is that they had the decency to not charge us for the lamb and the meal was still nearly 60E. I ended up eating offerings and leftovers from everyone else’s plates as mine was truly inedible. Not cool. Personally, I thought the burger was okay. I would love to recommend this place but I cannot. I would not hazard a stay here for fear it might be the same chef that provided breakfast.

A family run 3 star hotel it is very comfortable. The staff are very efficient, friendly and helpful. The food is very good and the breaks are excellent value - keep an eye out in the Irish News and Newsletter for a sterling rate. I have just returned from my second break there this year and would reccommend it to everyone.
The surroundings are conducive to walking, water sports and touring, you can bring your dog(s) with you the locals are friendly as well. I am already looking forward to it re-opening in March to book another stay.

Room Tip: Second floor at the front for the best views of Killary harbour

We really had a lovely stay in the Leenane Hotel, the food was wonderful, and the staff very helpful indeed. The view from our bed room overlooking Killary Harbour was so beautiful. I really recommend this hotel and we indeed to return very soon.

Room Tip: Room at the front of the hotel has excellent views

Stayed for three nights last week. Excellent food, efficient and very helpful staff, very comfortable room, scenery is exceptional and just a great overall experience that was excellent value for money! Would highly recommend this hotel and have done so - friends stayed earlier in the year on our recommendation and have returned again for another stay! Just can't be beaten for value, cuisine, care and attention. We intend to visit at least twice a season, already planning and looking forward to it - spoke to other visitors who are intending to do the same!! The hotel cannot be praised enough - well done to the Foyle family and all the staff - it's a great experience and thanks to all of you.

Room Tip: Have stayed in many of the rooms! All are very well furnished and comfortable. Higher floors probabl...

Stayed Friday to Monday of the bank holiday weekend. The hotel is just as good as the last time we visited. I cannot understand why people bother to nit pick about such silly things regarding brown bread for sale and not being available at breakfast. The brown bread is class, buy some and take it home. The staff in this hotel are the key to its success. The hotel is situated in a most fantastic setting just a ten minute walk from the village which has two fab bars to chill out in. I arrived on Friday with friends and we all enjoyed our three night stay immensely. We have all vowed that we will return here in 2013 and we are looking forward to it already. This is one of the most relaxing Hotels to spend a few nights in and I could not fault it for anything.

Room Tip: Overlooking the fjord

Booked in on a three night B&B, three dinner package. What a bargain! Thought it might be too much of a good thing to be genuine but it was spectacular value. Would recommend it. Food was very good & varied. Steaks were five euro extra but everything else on the menu was included. If you don't like the set menu, just order from the main menu (at no extra cost except for aforementioned steaks). When booking a room, try to get one in the new part of the hotel. Ours was spacious & comfortable with a small balcony looking over Killery inlet which is beautiful. Saw some of the older rooms as we passed & thought they were very cramped so would not recommend. Don't go to Leenane if you are looking for exciting nightlife--there is none. However, this gives you a chance to mingle & meet the other guests. If you like to chat, it is perfect & you get to meet interesting people who can recommend places to visit & things to do. Leenane is very central for exploring the area. You can go west to Kylemore & Clifden, east to Maam & Cong, north to Delphi & Westport (a fantastic drive). Overall, top marks.

Room Tip: Always ask for a room in the new part of the hotel as the rooms here are far better than in the olde...

Stayed here for 2nights from 27/10/12. 1st night an evening meal was included so I chose the fish main having first checked with the waitress if the fish was fresh and being assured it was. When it arrived it was clear that it was frozen ,processed fish.Breakfast the next morning was another surprise, someone must have run out to the local Lidl shop and bought everything .The yoghurts, black pudding etc were all from Lidl. Not what you would expect from a hotel . The best however was left for breakfast on MOnday morning. Guests were told that there was no brown bread available ,so we had white pan bread.however the owner of the hotel was selling brown bread at reception half an hour later for 3€ a loaf. What sort of way to treat your guests is this?Presentation of the breakfast was also very poor, smoked salmon put on a plate in a big lump and no attempt was made to make appetising or easy to put on your plate. This was cut price food but not at cut prices. There was no wifi available in the rooms and the owner hadn't installed saorview.
