Have just returned from a 3 night 'Go As You Please Break' including Dinner and Breakfast. Any Spa treatments/Outdoor activities are an optional extra.

The reception was excellent and we were upgraded at no charge to a 1 bedroom loft suite. Kenneth in particular was very helpful at providing maps and walking/driving/cycling routes. The scenery is spectacular and it is quite magical to come back to this oasis of calm after a days hiking and relax in the jacuzzi watching the mist over the mountains.

Nice touches in the restaurant but a few areas needed tweaking - they always seemed to be running out of something. And didn't seem to think it was a problem for the guests! Perhaps some more leadership/management needed - indeed I didn't see a manager during my stay.

The advertisements say this is one of the top spas in the world. I am not sure why. The setting in the mountains is lovely, but the Irish wind and rain meant the mountains were shrouded in mist most of the time we were there.

Our transfer from the station to the hotel never arrived (about 45 minutes journeytime) but we were given a free bottle of wine with our meal to compensate.

The treatments in the spa were very good, particularly the body wrap. Not too fussed about the balneotherapy or sound wave therapy though. The "health suite" only had a small sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. There was no gym or swimming pool.
We had booked an all inclusive three night break to include spa treatments and activities. The treatment timetable meant that we could not join in any of the indoor or outdoor activities since the treatments were booked for the same time. There was a limited range of indoor activities such as yoga or meditation and although there are supposed to be over thirty outdoor activities these do not take place every day. Basically there is a timetable of indoor and outdoor activities produced for the week which you can join in, but you cannot choose to do anything you want. We found we were bored lying around the jacuzzi all day and since the weather was so bad when we were there we were restricted in being able to even go for a walk outside.

The food is good but note that all inclusive means you have to pay for one dinner yourself. A three night stay only includes two dinners but bizarrely three lunches (which you will rarely ever use). Dinner is fairly expensive considering the fact that there is nowhere else to go nearby. Service for meals was slow in general and then even slower in the bar (despite there never being more than three couples there). There seemed to be some very new staff there who clearly didn't really know what they were doing, which is not what you expect for the price of the hotel.

The hotel is nice and the staff friendly (especially Amy) but don't expect anything out of the ordinary. Will suit people who just want to relax and eat all day. Take a few good books, your wellies and a raincoat as well.
