We spent the last weekend of our little girls summer holidays here after winning a wonderful prize on the radio.

We arrived in Delphi on Friday after the long drive from Dublin in miserable weather. At first glance the hotel building is an impressive sight and reminded me of something from a fairytale. It has a beautiful curved roof and appears to be built from the same rock and wood that surrounds it. On entering the hotel we felt an immediate sense of calm and tranquillity, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. They simply couldn’t do enough for us and took extra time to speak with our daughter who at 5 can sometimes be quite shy. We were guided to our room and very nicely surprised by how spacious and luxurious it was. We had a separate living and sleeping area combined with a patio looking out into the stunning views of the Mweelrea Mountains. Our little girl squealed with delight when she saw the enormous bath tub and indeed everything from the double headed shower to the lush toiletries stood out.

Despite the weather we got the wellies and rain macs on and headed out around the outer perimeter of the forest grounds to have a look at all the different activity points. This was a real adventure and something our daughter got great delight from. We completed the evening with a wonderful host in what can only be described as a panoramic dining room and a delicious meal which only left us to roll back to our bedrooms and sprawl on our princess and the pea bed. Needless to say we slept like babies.

The next morning after a lovely breakfast we headed out to tackle a mornings activities. Our daughter was collected for the young adventurers club and did everything from crab fishing to arts and crafts which she loved. Meanwhile we donned the necessary wetsuits, got ourselves looking suitably ridiculous, built a raft and sailed out to sea! We spent more time laughing than rowing and generally had a ball, between being accompanied by another lovely family and our super instructor I just couldn’t fault a thing about it. The instructor even managed to persuade us to jump off the pier into the bay at the end of the morning which was a real thrill. That evening we opted not for a formal meal but for some bar food which hit the spot perfectly. We finished the evening with a nice bottle of wine and a spot of star gazing, the closest thing to heaven on earth.

With huge reluctance we left Delphi on Sunday morning, without a shadow of a doubt we’ll be back.

We spent a weekend there with our children and Grandfather which we really enjoyed. Set in the midst of a number of hills, the location of the hotel and centre is idyllic. It is remote, without mobile coverage and is happily televisionless! There are lots of activities available including surfing and other watersports. This comes at additional charge so the costs mount up. €50 per child per day for 2 activities and 70 for adults. We did rock climbing and archery first but spent much of the time waiting around as it was a fabricated climbing wall which allowed only 1 to climb at a time. I would recommend other sports such as surfing and kayaking instead.

The hotel is rated 4-star but is of a 3-star standard as the rooms are small and it does not have a swimming pool. We had a loft room with 2 camp beds for the kids. The bathroom was very small with a small bath and shower over it.

The breakfasts were reasonably good and the food in the restaurant and bar was of a good standard. The service in the restaurant however was extremely poor and very slow. Such a let down for an otherwise good facility. There were ample staff in attendance but the staff are poorly trained and organised. It has all the hallmarks of part-time students playing waiter/waitress for the summer. The restaurant manager, who I presume is full-time, needs to take on a stronger role in supervising staff and training them more diligently. Delays are inevitable in restaurants but lack of communication and an ambivalent attitude is inexcusable. A "sorry there is a slight delay with the food" is not difficult. We waited 35 minutes for our drinks, had to ask 3 times for same and no attempt at an apology was made. Our food took another 30 minutes to appear.

I attended the spa which has a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The treatment rooms are a little too small but the therapists were good and the relaxation areas were nicely located and had lots of fresh fruits and homemade herbal teas. The area was well organised, the staff were very helpful and well trained. It is however expensive at €110 for a facial.

Overall I would go back to Delphi as the location is so spectacular and next time I would take a day to explore the surrounding hills for free!

Firstly, the scenery is lovely and the staff was friendly but it's basically an illusion. The room was smaller than i thought , room was very dirty , cobwebs in the room . As for the the four star ratings we were treated like two or three star residents and was not impressed. Also the blind in the restaurant is broken and we were told it has been for some time.
For families i was shocked to see no swimming pool.

The breakfast was ok ,service was really slow..took a staff member ten minutes to bring us a pot of tea , at that moment it was quiet and a member of the family ordered scrambled egg + toast and we never received it as there was plenty of staff walking around the place it still took ages . As of that I find that there is too much staff in the restaurant area, their is a person for every meal. We ordered soup and the waitress said it was leak and potato and she returns with pea soup , No one told us about the change of soup.

The transport bus was falling apart and there was an awful smell on it also. I think ye need to invest in a new bus .. ""four star"" resort to a bus held with tape .
The price was really expensive , especially in this economic climate.. I am very disappointed with the prices ,it's daylight robbery !! Ten euro per person for room service on top of what ever you get.. its a joke and need to be looked at.
The overall experience was very poor and will NOT recommend to anyone and also will not be returning.
not a good place for families mostly for couples..

Just recently back from a two day stay at Delphi, two wonderful days for myself, mid fifties and my eleven year old son. I would actively recommend this hotel for anyone looking for beautiful scenery, magical views from our suite, any amount of activities. The Spa while small is lovely. The staff couldn't be nicer. A little slice of heaven on earth, we will be back for a longer stay next year.

This was the second year our children did the activities in the resort -so after our great experience last year, we came back for more! We did not stay in the resort this year either, as self catering suits us better when away for a week or more(just prefer to be able to cook ourselves now and again) but we were in the resort every day for surfing, kayaking, river scrambling and hillwalking. Our children aged 14 and 11 found the instructors fun, friendly and kind and the whole family loved the food in the bar and restaurant. The atmosphere is calm, no television screens, people reading around the place and together with the stunning scenery, Delphi Mountain resort comes highly recommended. Also, I would like to compliment the staff at the desk who were exceptionally helpful at all times, even allowing me to use their internet screens to check out some stuff when my signal wasn't working.

Room Tip: We didn't stay in the resort but used the excellent facilites which we found of very high standa...

We had a little family get-together here recently. We were familiar with the area so the stunning setting came as no surprise but on entering the building, we felt immediately welcome. It really is a beatifully quirky building. The staff were very warm, friendly and helpful. Our room was fine and clean, and the views out onto the back of a mountain threaded with silver streams were amazing. Two of our party did the coasteering activity one morning and were like new people coming back, they enjoyed it so much. (That day was, disappointingly, the only fine day of our stay; it rained otherwise). I had a spa treatment, a relaxing massage. The thermal suite I used before and after was fantastic... sitting in a jacuzzi with the mountains all around you just unwinds you. The food was good; local fare with the main courses in huge portions, and the wine list was decent. I think on the whole it caters for people interested in getting away from it all, whether to do activities and not stay up too late, or to chill out, use the spa, and not stay up too late. Basically, i got the impression that late nights in the bar were not the done thing, but there are plenty of less characterful hotels where you can do that. There are no TVs and no mobile coverage so you really are getting away from it all when you go here.
There were a lot of children here so it is ideal for families doing activities. I think there was a couple in the dining room who seemed bothered by the squealing baby in our party so this might not be for everyone. But the spa is aimed at adults so I guess they try to cater for both. Maybe the restaurant should separate families from couples, if they can? Might keep both happy! Also, you need a car to properly explore the amazing scenery around Doolough and towards Louisburgh or Leenane. Finally, on leaving, I realised i left some clothes behind me in the wardrobe so I gave them a ring and it was no trouble to them to post them on to me. (Thanks to Anne-Marie for that!)

Room Tip: Choose a suite or mezzanine room in the main hotel.

This was our fourth or fifth stay at Delphi - have lost count now!

Food was excellent as usual - and we enjoyed some spa treatments on this visit as well.

One of our favourite places to chill out in Ireland.....
