The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They are knowledgable about what's on in the area and what to do and see. The rooms are comfortable and spacious with lovely views. It's like a small hotel in that you can come and go to the house during the day with coffee and tea available in room. No tv or wifi in the room but for me thats a plus. The breakfast is great with a full irish breakfast cooked to order and plenty of fruit and cereal. Great location and just two minutes walk from the village. But dinner was disappointing. There was nothing intrinsically wrong with the food but i expected something more given the restaurants reputation - as I had gone there especially for the restaurant that was clearly a disappointment.

You can't beat Portfinn for location...overlooking Killary Harbour, the view from our room was lovely (not all rooms have the harbour view but the mountain behind it is lovely too!). It is a minute's walk to Leenane's two pubs as well.

The rooms are basic but clean & comfortable. There is no TV or radio. The location lends itself to the outdoors and that's what we were there for so it didn't bother us. There was a kettle in the room.
The bathroom supplies consisted of soap only - no shampoo! Luckily we had some with us, but a few items in the bathroom would have been handy. Not the most comfortable bed I've slept in...it squeaked like mad with the slightest movement!

Breakfast was good - a small buffet of cereals, juice & yoghurts and then cooked breakfast made to order.

We ate dinner in the restaurant one night. It's nice, but not amazing and with a few small improvements could be great. I had scallops which were still gritty with sand. Could not fault the freshness of the seafood though. My husband raved about the potatoes. Two meat dishes are offered if you're not a fish lover.

The staff are very friendly & welcoming and we would love to stay at Portfinn again.

We stayed for one night on our trip around the west coast, and we had a great experience in Portfinn Lodge. Brian made us feel very welcome the moment we met him. Rooms are very spacious and have amazing views of the harbour and surrounding mountains. We had dinner in the restraunt that night, and it was truly fabulous food, fresh produce and cooked to perfection.Brian recommended the scenic boat trip around the harbour to take in the amazing landscape and learn some local history, it was fantastic and very enjoyable, watch for the dolphins at the mouth of the harbour as the boat makes its turn around. Highly recommend a stay at Portfin lodge for great location, great food and perfect hosts. We will be back again. Loved it.

I stayed with 3 girlfriends (2 travelled from Cork -- long drive!!, 2 from Dublin). We arrived tired and stiff and were met with such warmth and hospitality that it blew us away. Alex and Brian are two wonderful hosts .. they met our every need and pre-empted us on more that one occassion. We dined in the restaurant on both nights and the food was fabulous ,, we had both seafood and lamb... scallops were gorgeous and perfectly cooked.

The sitting room area is homly and comfortable. The bedrooms were tight space wise (no. 1) and basic but spotlessely clean and my friend who travels extensively for work, always to 4* or 5* venues remarked that the beds were very comfortable and we all slept great.

The breakfast was adequate but none fo us are really morning eaters... Brown bread is made fresh every morning and is divine... One small request though guys, the coffee could be better.

In summary, you would not go wrong staying here -- great comfort, great views, great food, great hospitality, great value .. Now if only somehting could be done about that weather !!!

My wife & I stayed here 3 nights in late May. More than satisfactory. Good room, good restaurant (actually it is the only real restaurant in Leenane though there are c.3 places serving sandwiches/pub food.) and Alex, the owner, could not have been nicer or more helpful. We stayed at 7 places during this trip to Ireland; Portfinn was our favorite.
