I stayed with 3 girlfriends (2 travelled from Cork -- long drive!!, 2 from Dublin). We arrived tired and stiff and were met with such warmth and hospitality that it blew us away. Alex and Brian are two wonderful hosts .. they met our every need and pre-empted us on more that one occassion. We dined in the restaurant on both nights and the food was fabulous ,, we had both seafood and lamb... scallops were gorgeous and perfectly cooked.

The sitting room area is homly and comfortable. The bedrooms were tight space wise (no. 1) and basic but spotlessely clean and my friend who travels extensively for work, always to 4* or 5* venues remarked that the beds were very comfortable and we all slept great.

The breakfast was adequate but none fo us are really morning eaters... Brown bread is made fresh every morning and is divine... One small request though guys, the coffee could be better.

In summary, you would not go wrong staying here -- great comfort, great views, great food, great hospitality, great value .. Now if only somehting could be done about that weather !!!

My wife & I stayed here 3 nights in late May. More than satisfactory. Good room, good restaurant (actually it is the only real restaurant in Leenane though there are c.3 places serving sandwiches/pub food.) and Alex, the owner, could not have been nicer or more helpful. We stayed at 7 places during this trip to Ireland; Portfinn was our favorite.

Portfinn lodge is in a gorgeous location but unfortunatley,we did not feel welcome as a young family in summer 2010.It was our first family trip away with a 3 month old baby.I had booked a double room 2/3 weeks earlier and we were put in a room with two single beds put together. We presumed a kettle was a definite in bnb accommodation, which we needed for bottles but there was none.(Water was kindly left for us at door). When we arrived we were tired and starving and when going for something to eat in restuarant we were asked 'did the baby cry?' We may have got staff on a bad day but we really felt we were not welcome and like leaving. It was lashing rain outside,so decided to cut our losses and stay. This is the first time we have had such a negative experience and felt so unwelcome in such accommadation and will not be staying here again.

The accommodation is beautifully situated but we were very disappointed with the facilities provided. The room was adequate in size and clean but there were no tea/coffee making facilities ot Tv or even a glass in the bathroom, all of which one expects in a guest house these days. We found a TV in the lounge but it was non-functioning at first and on inspection there were no batteries in the remote control. The TV reception was poor with limited channels. The breakfast was adequate and the evening meal was enjoyable. We were welcomed by the owner although we saw little of him afterwards. Overall a big disappointment and we would not stay there again.

Myself and a friend stayed in Portfinn for a night before competing in a local race. When we arrived we were shown to our rooms which were a nice size and very well appointed. To say the staff were helpful is a huge understatement, Alex and his staff could not have done more for us. At dinner we requested food that wasn't on the menu to prepare for the race and this was not a problem, in fact, the chef prepared a delicious meal for us that left us totally satisfied. Alex even arranged a late checkout for us the following day so that we could shower after the race even though he was fully booked that night.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Portfinn Guesthouse and I will certainly be staying there again.

Myself and my friend spent 2 nights in Portfinn lodge. What an amazing 2 days it was.We arrived to a lovely welcome and settled into have a cup of tea which was always being offered. The hopitality was just wonderful. But it was the view overlooking the bay in Leenane from both the sitting room and the dining room that took my breath away. I could have sat there all day looking out at it. Even the photos I took dont do it justice. The dinner in the restaurant of chowder and then fresh scallops was delicious.and it was lovely to have dinner, a glass of wine then sit and relax in the living room with no distance to walk or drive to bed. The scenery around Leenane is amazing so we had wonderful drives up the Delphi valley to Lewisberg.
But I almost forgot to mention the wonderful tour in the ferry around the Killary Fjiord with the beautiful mountains rising all around us.
I returned home relaxed after a wonderful break.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the bay

I watched a youtube video of the redesign of Portfinn and couldn't wait to see the reality. We were not at all disappointed and the "makeover" has done wonders for both the building and the food. We stayed in Leenane for a week and portfinn provided us with an excellent meal to remember. take a cruise on Killary Harbour to work up an appetite!
