In a pretty and peaceful location overlooking a lake, on the outskirts of the village. We stayed 2 nights. Our room, although not huge, was very comfortable and really nicely decorated, and had views of the lake. Susan and her staff are welcoming and helpful, and the food is lovely - a good choice of beautifully cooked breakfast options, and a wide range of cereals, yoghurts, jams etc. The evening meal was excellent and very good value - not cheap, but top quality and the restaurant is obviously deservedly very popular. On Mondays the restaurant is closed so we ate at Arnolds hotel in the village, where the dining room is a bit lacking in atmosphere but the food was nice.

A wonderful place to stay in a glorious setting with excellent food the main attraction. However, not a place for the early riser. You can't have a shower until about 7 am and breakfast, which was superb, is only served from 9 - 9:30.

My fiance and I decided to book a room at The Mill after reading the wonderful comments on this site and indeed in The Sunday Times Travel Section. We stayed on a Saturday night and booked a table at the restaurant. The Mill is situated at the shores of a lovely lake so the setting is beautiful. We were shown to our lovely room by the proprietor, Susan and were offered coffee in the conversatory which was accompanied by homemade shortbread.

The room was lovely and was filled with lots of nice antique furniture. There was a kettle in the room to enable us to make our own tea/coffee as well as a jar containing two lovely homemade biscuits.

The food in the restaurant was absolutely amazing. We both agreed that we had never had such a wonderful meal. We were given the chef's appetizer whilst perusing the menu in front of the log fire and then proceeded to have our starters which were accompanied by delicious homemade bread. A lemon sorbet followed. Our main courses were out of this world - we had sirloin and scallops and pork belly respectively. The creme brulee with langue de chat biscuits was the nicest dessert I've ever tasted. We were then shown to the conversatory area where we could drink endless cups of coffee. We were also given petit fours to end a fantastic eating experience.

The service throughout our stay was amazing. The staff were only to happy to help. We will definitely return to The Mill and we have already recommended it to our family and friends!

I took my partner here as a special get-away from london. The place had been recommended by a family member, so I knew it must be good. When we arrived, the weather in Donegal was suitably romantic; gale force winds, hailstones, heavy rain, severe weather conditions....
but somehow, the setting of the mill restaurant managed to wipe all our city troubles away. OUr room overlooked the lake, the furniture was very homely and of a high standard.

The food served in the restaurant was absolutely amazing, with impeccable service. We returned to London feeling relaxed and invogourated. The food in this place is worth the trip alone.

Chose to stay at The Mill on recommendation. We were not dissappointed. Very friendly greeting on arrival, with tea offered and taken in the conservatory. The room was very comfortable, better than some 4 star hotels we've stayed in. The showers are great. The restaurant food was very good and for the price, excellent value. Indeed the cost of the accomodation is also very reasonable. The location is beautiful and local beaches are not to be missed. All in all this was easily the best place we stayed during our short tour of Donegal. We would have no hesitation in returning.

  • Liked — The whole experience was how you would want it to be - excellent.
  • Disliked — N/a
  • Tips/Secrets — Make sure you book early, when we stayed the restaurant was booked up for 3 weeks in advance!

This place is a gem! The setting is beautiful, right on the shore of "new lake," where a number of swans make their home. Our corner room was large and elegantly furnished, with beautiful views of the lake. We had dinner there two nights, and were very happy with our food on both occassions (fresh and expertly prepared, but also creative). Breakfasts were also very yummy. Service at dinner was sometimes less polished than the food.

What a wonderful place to stay. The scenery on the way there is breathtaking (although the amount of new build houses is staggering) The room at the Inn was small but had everything we needed and again a fantastic view from the window. Fresh milk available in the room without any trouble. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is wonderful. I have coeliac disease and was told that everything on the menu could be tailored to suit me - what a treat! We had dinner as well as breakfast and commented throughout the rest of our trip that it was probably the best meal we had - and the others were certainly not bad so prepare yourself for great food perfectly cooked and a memorable stay. We would most certainly stay there again if we are back in the area.
