Summerhill House Hotel
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in Enniskerry
Reviewed January 5, 2013

We have been to 2 weddings at the Summerhill House Hotel the most recent of which was a week before Christmas'12.

Pros
Its got a great location in Enniskerry just opposite Powerscourt Gardens.
Having stayed in the Ritz Carlton across the road for 3 times the price I would say Summerhill is very good value for what you get.
Nice friendly staff.
Great food at the wedding dinner and the breakfast was very good too. Needed after the late night!
Main function room was perfect for the event.

Cons
We stayed in the apartments out back which were ok but felt a little clinical and had no heating on when we arrived...brrrrr!
The hotel could do with a bit of a refurbishment as some of the halls and bedrooms were a little drab.

Overall a good value 3 star hotel

We attended a wedding here recently and as we paid €150 for our overnight I really expected the hotel to be gorgeous. What I expected and what we got were two different things. I would like to say that I have stayed in many hotels around Ireland and I have paid less but the experience has been much more positive than this one.

I found the reception staff ok but not professional. When wer arrived we were told some of the rooms were not ready even though the hotel would have been expecting 140 guests for this wedding. I felt this was a bad start and really unacceptable.

The room we were given was on the 2nd floor and when we opened the door I was taken aback. I felt I had just walked back to the early 90's. The curtains looked old and shabby. The lamp shades and carpet were old and there were two double beds in this small room. The bathroom was very basic with one shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. It was old fashioned and certaintly needs a facelift if they want returning guests. There was a small cupboard with the small telly on top with only 4 channels.

I went back to reception and asked to be changed which they did to the 3rd floor. They called it a king room. The only difference between the first room and this was that there was a king size bed in a large room. The views are superb but the accomodation is dreadful and lets the whole place down. The decor does not reflect the old style house.

Breakfast was lovely and we had a great time at the wedding but if you are expecting luxury accomodation, don't come here. I would have preferred to pay the extra €70 and stay across the road in the 5 star Ritz Carlton. This is meant to be a 3 star but its a poor 3 star.

Hello thank you for adding your review I am pleased you enjoyed the wedding you attended and the breakfast. I am sorry you felt disappointed with the accommodation as you rightly did you let us know and we were able to offer you an alternative the hotel is a country house hotel so the decor is not always to everyones taste.

Stayed for a long week-end to attend a family wedding. Amazing location and great staff. We had a family room which was probably due a bit of an update, decor wise, but clean and comfy. Wonderful, old fashioned(in a good way) service.

We had a fantastic stay here for two nights 17th and 18th November. I was attending a wedding and it was just superb. The staff are really friendly, from the welcome at reception to our goodbye at check out they were great. It is a wonderful venue for a wedding, the atmosphere was just great and the food amazing. I needed to get a taxi to nearby Enniskerry but it was going to take 30 minutes, the receptionist told me she was going off duty in a few minutes and would give me a lift - where else would you get that kind of service?
Thank you for a very enjoyable stay and look forward to seeing you again.

Stayed at the Summerhill House Hotel for a 1 night girlie spa break. Was a perfect break from beginning to end, the Spa was quaint and we both enjoyed the hot tub on the deck after our treatments. The food for dinner and breakfast was outstanding, best breakfast I had in a long time. The duty manager Emma is a real asset to the hotel, so friendly and welcoming. We will be back...

The wedding of the year ? Great day from start to finish , What a wedding ceremony ! Excellent!! Spectacular ! The approach to the entrance to this hotel is hidden by lovely foliage and a sight never to forget when first glimpsed . Then greeted by a glass of wine and a riproaring fire welcomed the Bride and Groom and party to this beautiful hotel in a Gorgeous setting ( Adjacent to the famous Powerscourt estate no less) with specatular countryside views . The Meal was so that all tastes were provided for with no fuss or to do ! Waiters and waitresses galore > no waiting between courses and all delivered with professional courtesy. The dining room was magnificent and provided ample room to allow for a band and dancing until the early hours of the next morning, Drinks on the go and food provided if and when necessary. then up to a bedroom that had all the necessities at hand. Quiet and peace allowed for a lovely nights sleep,
