Owner description: Powerscourt Waterfall is Ireland's highest at 121m (398ft). It is set in North County Wicklow just outside Enniskerry Village. The magnificent Waterfall cascades down over the granite rocks from the peatlands above. The crystal clear water flows down to the river below where it continues on its journey out to sea at Bray. The valley itself was carved out by a glacier during the ice age! Today Powerscourt is a haven for some of Ireland's wildlife, flora and fauna. The Sikka deer were first introduced here by Lord Powerscourt in 1858. The Waterfall is best seen just after heavy rain and the sheer volume of water and noise is certainly a sight to behold. The Waterfall is an ideal location for summer picnics and barbecues. There is a vast amount of space to keep children entertained. There is also a playground for younger children. Don't fret if you forget your picnic as there is a kiosk on site that serves everything from coffee and tea to hot-dogs and ice-cream. The kiosk is open everyday from the 1st June to the end of August and year round at weekends, if weather permits. There is ample car parking and toilet facilities at the waterfall. Dogs are welcome but they must be on a leash. Take time to explore the pathways that meander through the flora and fauna, walk along the woodland pathways and listen to the birdsong.

this would be a nice addition to the Powerscourt House & Gardens visit but not worth an additional charge.

this is a beautiful spot for a picnic or bbq day with family, beautiful surroundings with lots for the kids, on a busy day the queue for the shop was far too long and they need to address this. otherwise i will definitly be back

Hello from sunny Powerscourt and thank you so much for your review. I have noted your comments regarding the long wait at the kiosk and sent a copy to the gentleman that looks after it! Despite the wait in the queue I am delighted that you enjoyed your visit to the Waterfall.

“Well worth a visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

It has been over 20 years since I last visited Powerscourt waterfall & it was just as spectacular today (although a beautiful sunny day may have helped!). There is a charge into the park €5.50 for adults, €3.50 for children under 16 & family tickets are available. There was plenty of parking - note that you can drive past the main car park & park right down by the waterfall. It was very busy today, however with such space around there was plenty of room for everyone.

The majority of visitors had picnics with them, up to & including full size gas BBQ's! There is a cafe there that sells a selection of hot snacks (hot dogs, chips etc), as well as sandwiches, ice creams, cold drinks & tea/coffee - prices were ok, typical for a tourist attraction. There is a great playground beside the cafe suitable for all ages. The area is well maintained. No alcohol or loud music is allowed, which makes for a pleasant time. The sound of chatting & laughter was abundant today.

There are several trails around the waterfall if you fancy some exercise. We followed the river & found several areas where children were either paddling or swimming in the water. You can spend as little or as much time as you like here & I cant wait to go back with a picnic - soon!

“bring your picnic!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

One of the highlights of our trip to Wicklow was a visit to Powerscourt Waterfall which left us feeling a bit left out as everyone had either a picnic or a BBQ. Despite this we were awe struck by the spectacular view and natural beauty of this area. As it was late in the afternoon large numbers of people had gathered and were thoroughly enjoying the space and freedom of the setting. Don't miss the opportunity of visiting this natural beauty and if you have time pack the picnic and enjoy an afternoon away from it all.

“Really impressive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

Visiting the highest waterfall in Ireland is a pleasant task, as it is immersed into the nature and you will certainly enjoy the spectacular view. Even just sitting at its bottom and watching above will keep you busy for a long time. If this isn't enough for you, there are many walking trails around that you can explore just as well. Or you can just relax and have a nap in the grass.

Maybe the price is a bit high for a natural beauty, but I think the view is well worth the money. Besides there group discounts and family tickets are available.
