“Only fair”

Popped in for coffee and desert - they were very nice - place advertises a river view terrace overlooking the very impressive falls but when I asked if I could go out there both manager and waiter were most unhelpful giving me the distinct impression they would rather I didn't. I had to repeatedly ask until eventually the surly waiter grudgingly complied - how bizarre- he muttered something about the door opening and closing all night even though there were only a handful of other diners in the place - why bother advertise something if you don't want your customers to avail of it? Won't bother again thanks.

“A cultural and foodlovers delight in a very small town with a charming ambiance.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

Found this gem very much by accident . It was late 8:00pm and we were hungry. And we were 2 towns away from our cottage in Liscannor . We were on ths N85 in County Clare and we stopped in this very small village and by a stranger's suggestion we entered. It was a culinary delight. It was like being in the French countryside. The wine and the food were superb as well as our server whose father was the owner. Hope to see you guys again!

“nice setting,great town, food..hmm”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

visited this place after some good reviews but they seemed to struggle with the concept of people having allergies. For some reason the Thai curry had milk in it? got served with different vegetablesthan told including cauli cheese, and buttered potatoes. partner enjoyed the salmon though. The location is fantastic but this is a bit hit and miss.

Hi Mike,

My name is Conor, I am the manager in Byrne's.

Perhaps you misunderstood your waiter, our curries contain coconut milk not dairy milk.

Our daily fresh fish dishes (such as the Salmon your partner enjoyed) are served with a selection of fresh vegetables, we do not specify which vegetables on the menu because this changes all the time, sometimes a few times a day, it depends on what is available.

We are planning on changing our menu lay out this Autumn to show which menu items are suitable for people with alergies so next time your in the area call in to see if it helps.

Regards, Conor.

“Beautiful food, fabulous setting, excellent service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2012

What more do you want? Oh, did I forget to mention the unique, yet traditional, beauty of the dining room? The unequalled view of The Falls? The picture-postcard setting at the head of one of the best-kept small town main streets in Ireland?
As for the food... We cannot call our family holiday complete without at least one evening in Byrne's. As a large group (always more than a dozen of us) we always test the menu to its limits. No element goes untasted and little is ever wasted! My personal favourite is the lamb which does, literally, fall off the bone.. but I can assure you, I could throw darts at the menu and be assured of a gastronomic delight every time.
Byrne's is truly a family-run establishment and the feel of the place is warm friendly and inviting. The staff are good-humoured and courteous, yet professional and discreet. You hardly know they're there, but they cater to your every need.
I can't recommend Byrne's highly enough!
