“Comfortable, friendly, well run boutique hotel.”
Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

Checked in at 2.30 with the intention of heading out for the evening. The room was so comfortable we didn't leave until check out the next morning! I don't golf but if I did this is the perfect hotel. A couple of minutes walk from the village and the golf course. The service was professional and friendly. The only thing I didn't like was a photo of Bertie Ahearne in the bar. The weekend away was to try and forget about the mess this country is in. I didn't need to see the smug face of one of the chief architects of the mess to remind of it. But that's a personal gripe! :)

Thanks for the review
Our lounge has a couple of mementos of my time as a hotelier to personalise the space
Just in case anyone thinks I have a portrait of Bertie like the Pope up on the wall (lol,) I have a nice photo including myself, the bold Bertie, Ex US president George Bush and others taken in Dromoland Castle many years ago. May of my American guests enjoy it and it was a historic moment. By the way, it is not on the wall, it is inside a book case!!! Read what you will into that!!
At least it provokes some banter among guests - as you can see from this review
Im gald the overall visit was enjoyable

11 of us on a golf trip stayed at the Vaughan Lodge in Lahinch for two nights in July, 2012. The Lodge is the perfect size - big enough for all the amenities you expect for a larger hotel and small enough to get the focus and attention from a family owned business.

Its only a 5 minute walk to Lahinch golf club. We walked, with our clubs in tow.

Its also only a 5 minute walk into town. Lahinch is small but still has a fair share of good pubs and restaurants.

Food was excellent at Vaughan especially the breakfast (included in room). Of the 5 hotels we stayed in during our trip, Vaughan had the best spread for breakfast and the most variety.

It has a very nice bar and lounge area in the hotel and they are willing to keep it open late for the guests.

The rooms were quite large and all were en-suite. Plenty of water pressure. Wifi worked very well.

All in all, a great stay.

Thank you for such positive comment
We are not entirely a golf hotel but at times golfers are in a majority
We have a small enough place to offer quality in a seasonal place where it is often hard to maintain standards due to the vagaries of the weather and location.
Our great team here at Vaughan Lodge are delighted to serve and when it is appreciated it is a great moment

We stayed at Vaughan lodge for one night only in mid October.I have to say it was a great stay, staff were very friendly upon arrival and were happy to answer any questions. The room was extremely spacious, bed very comfy..only one small thing which was no tea/coffee facilities in room but nothing major to worry about.Although it was coming to the end if season in lahinch,it was very quiet around the town and hotel which was a nice change rather than hustle and bustle. Our stay was very pleasant at Vaughan Lodge and would most definitely recommend this hotel to anybody travelling down the area of lahinch..overall the hotel is excellent, friendly people, lovely rooms and will return in the future if in the area!! :-)

Our second stay at Vaughn Lodge proved to be just as good as our first visit in 2009. Clean, comfortable, quiet and walking distance to restaurants/shopping/golf, we had a most relaxing stay. If ever back to this part of Ireland, we will certainly return to Vaughn Lodge.

I spoke recently to an owner who had a disaster the second time round with a revisiting guest!!
Hero to zero is not a space we like to be in as hoteliers.
It is so heartening to learn that we managed to be consistent
Thank you

the best thing about the lodge? meeting michael, the owner and the bonus of getting to meet the family....such a welcoming place, but with a quest of excellence that is achieved!!! the front desk staff (not family but working family) was so excellent!!!! after a few not so great front desk experiences on this trip this was doubly appreciated.

aside from the service and true concerned guest care, the hotel also has a great lounge, delicious breakfast, huge room, lovely tv and an 110 outlet!! loved the art and make sure to see the humorous prints in the lounge.

had heard great things about the restaurant but it was closed...boo hoooo...however we got a great recommendation to a nearby place for dinner...they always look out for you the vaughans!

make sure to wander out back and visit the donkey and garden where some of the hotel's food is grown...lovely views as well...don't miss this place!!!

Room Tip: ask for one with a view....

Spent a saturday night here in late summer. Room was fine but pretty standard for this level.
The restaurant was seriously good for a relatively small hotel. Pleasant bar area as well.Overall a sense of a well run establishment with high standards of service.

Thanks for the kind words. Our hotel is seasonal which makes it twice as tough as a year round hotel to keep standards. It's like opening a new hotel each season. I'm glad you enjoyed the stay especially given your pen name lol!!

From making the call to follow up with Martina and Linda, this hotel exceeds all expectations. First impressions are warm, inviting, clean, professional. We had a lovely bedroom with 2 double beds - including an excellent sleep on the 2 night stay. We dined in the restaurant on the 1st night - such presentation, flavour and variety. This was a culinary delight. The staff are exceptional and as I delighted in telling Michael - well selected staff - a pleasure to see their work ethic and friendliness - they could teach a lot to other establishments! Back to the food, I had crab claws to start..ooh la la..and monkfish - cooked to perfection and salted caramel - v unusual - delicious. My friend had the beef and it was divine. The breakfast was quality food from the smokey bacon to the smoked salmon and mackeral and yes the porridge is worth a try - we were so looking forward to b'fast on the 2nd morning to try the omelete - again it did not disappoint. I best not go on..we are not golfers but that does not matter, there is a beautiful walk around the golf club and on to the beach. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and a lovely stroll into town. Top marks - you would go a long way to find such high standards. I look forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the golf course
