“A brilliant week!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2012

Just back from Lahinch where my twelve year old grandson attended a surfing summer camp I was the only member of the family free to accompany him. What a brilliant week we had!. We could not have chosen a better place to stay than the lodge! Our room (No 2, recently redecorated?) was attractive, convenient, quite large for the two of us and spotless. The beds and bedding were extremely comfortable. The bathroom not only had a power shower but a bath as well! Bliss! I have stayed in many B&B and guest houses in Ireland and abroad but i must say that the lodge was one of the best and excellent value for money. The continental breakfast laid out in a charming dining room simplified life and the practical and well equipped kitchen enabled me to give my surfer some home cooked food. He particularly enjoyed relaxing in the lounge with the playstation and the company of other young people. I was lucky to snatch one sunny evening on the roof terrace with a drink and my book The lodge is in a good location with everything within a short walk. The only problem might be parking but we were lucky throughout the week!.Unlike some reviewers I found the lodge very quiet ( no rowdy parties during our stay), very clean, very well organized and managed. The staff was most pleasant. Well done Duncan and your team! I am sure that, in time, even the outside showers for surfers will improve!! i would definitely stay again and will bring my husband... . Au revoir and all the best. Joelle and Conor.

Room Tip: Room 2 was excellent for anyone wanting a double and a single bed.

Excellent location within easy walking distance of pubs/shop etc.

Stayed in a family room (1 dbl + 1 single) which was spacious and clean with an en-suite.

Lovely breakfast provided in the morning - tea/coffee, toast, cereal, fruit - mmm mmm.

Friendly staff.

We had seen a few worrying reviews but we just stayed for the weekend and it was great.super comfortable and great facilities. We will be back and maybe they have reacted to some of the issues expressed by others.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms upstairs they are big

Just back from Lahinch after a great weekend, aided a great deal by Duncan and the West Coast Lodge! We stayed in Room 12, which was spotless and comfortable. The shower was hot and powerful, the bed was comfortable, the white linen impeccable.

I didn't have breakfast there as we head out for the "fry-up" so I cannot comment on the kitchen facilities. I also didn't use the common room that others are commenting on in a negative manner so I can't comment on that either.

There was no noise despite the fact that there was apparently a stag staying there, and when one member of that crew caused a bit of a rumpus on Friday night, the group were asked to leave on Saturday.

I found it to be well worth it and would have no hesitation about going back again or recommending it to a friend.

I suppose if some of the visitors have mentioned that the common area needs a bit of attention, then I presume that could be easily sorted to make the overall experience perfect :)

After staying in the West Coast Lodge in Sept 09, we promised ourselves that we would return because it was so good. We booked last minute on Friday 13th and arrived down that evening. We were initially told the place was full except for a room on the ground floor, and the guy said that it might be a bit noisy as there was a large group staying in the hostel. But he very kindly juggled things around and we were promised room 11 on the top floor, which we thought was a great start. Unfortunately, it was disappointment from the front door. There was dog hair all over the mat and flooring; the photo frames on the walls which had the most fantastic photos displayed, had been 'cleaned' with a dirty cloth and were really manky looking. Cobwebs hanging down from the lamp at the top of the first flight of stairs. I didn't want to find fault because we loved the place the last time, but it was in our face at every turn. Our room was just ok, but it needed painting, the bed was terrible - the mattress was the noisiest mattress I have EVER encountered.....and that was just getting in and out of it! The bath and shower was in bad need of repair, and I think we caused problems for the room below us from the water leaking down.

The common room was awful. It wasn't cleaned the whole weekend and was so dirty and untidy with boxes of empty beer bottles and cans in the room and on the floor. The glass coffee table was filthy, the tv stand was covered in dust, the throws for the sofas were dumped around the room and the carpet and walls needed a good clean. We went there to read the Sunday papers but had to leave, it was like being in our daughter's dirty bedroom! The breakfast was disappointing - there was only white sliced bread....

Duncan is commenting on reviewers comments, but he is really not acting on the negative ones to try and improve things. The staff don't appear all that happy, even though they did try - could be shortstaffed. They were helpful and friendly but something was amiss.

Unfortunately we won't return. Loved it the first time, but it's gone badly downhill.

Having stayed here two years ago and enjoyed the experience I rebooked a midweek break with 3 teenagers ...BIG MISTAKE. This time the 6 bedded room was damp and filthy. The communal room was filthy with beer bottles and cans strewn everywhere, although very few booked in on the night we stayed. Presumably they were there from the previous night. The carpets all over the establishment were filthy. I would not recommmend anyone to stay here. Three tourists were also staying here and moved out the following morning also saying it was disgusting.

Room Tip: The 2 bedded room next to the office appeared cleaner
