We stayed at the lodge, and had dinner there one night. It was exceptional quality, well serviced, and friendly. The fish was very well done and high quality presentation.

Hi Praise from our Antipodean guest and just in case there is confusion - the "Very Well Done " Fish was well done a la executed in cooking and presentation and not over cooked lol
We are blessed with a great fish supplier from Doonbeg that provides directly from his boat to our back door and you cannot get much more fresh than that. Trying to mess up good fresh fish is easy and it happens... but not here at Vaughan Lodge where we are keeping it Simple and elegant under Dan's watchful eye!!

“5 meals...all perfection!”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

My golfing buddy and I stayed at the Lodge two nights in early June, 2013. We each took 5 meals there. The owner himself made our morning omelets, ham, cheese and tomato in each. Delicious! The dinners were what I would hope to get back in the States, but usually cannot. We had fish one night that was prepared as we asked and absolutely fresh and very tasty. The other night we each had filet of Irish beef, which, believe it or not, is as good as it gets. And this is from someone who raised Hereford cattle, and hopefully knows his beef. Mine was rare, exactly as I expected it, and the accompanying vegetables were fresh and prepared perfectly. The wine list is quite comprehensive and fairly priced, and they have wine by the glass in some instances. I would stay here again, and hope to soon on a return trip.

It was a change this year moving from Angus to Hereford but the move was made on the strong advice of a cousin who is involved in the Beef industry science!!
We are glad we did not, and using Donald Russell as a supplier has been a great experience.
Dan and Carol and Christian put a lot of dedicated effort into their 5 nights work and we hope it shows! Breda and Dee were your servers and they too make a necessary contribution
Thank you for setting us apart in a crowded space !!

“Unbelieveable- Melt in your mouth Cuisine”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

Before our girlie trip away I was advised by family and friends that I absolutely had to visit Vaughan's outside Lahinch. As a fish lover I was so excited and in turn had got my friends excited. We were a group of five, four fish lovers and one not. However Vaughan's appealed to both Fish and red meat lovers. I Was glad we had a booked a table the night before as the restaurant was full on the Saturday night, the atmosphere was great, and the restaurant/pub was full of holiday makers and locals alike. For fish lovers..... this place is a must. I had a crab tartlet for starters that was exquisite. My mains had scallops that were cooked to perfection and literally melted in my mouth. I have since sent many of my friends and family down in the Ennistymon direction.

This review is not for Vaughan Lodge
We have a clubby cocktail Lounge and not a Pub.
We don't serve crab on a tartlet - we have crab claws with a wonderful fresh spinach and rich sabayon of wild garlic and wine
This needs to be placed at Vaughans Anchor Inn Liscannor
The Author has confused their geography
Nice review though and if I was sneaky I might claim it!!
I wonder how many of their good ones relate to us??? Lol

Merci a votre bon mots !!
We work hard to prepare a casual fine dining menu each evening.
The menu is not all seafood but at least 50% contains beautiful fresh fish delivered daily
If only the economy would push on and allow more people to enjoy it !!! lol

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

Nice intimate dining room. Steak was fantastic. Perfectly cooked. Wasn't impressed with the langoustines. Female waitress was excellent. Friendly, but not over bearing. Although the over all experience was nice, it wasn't amazing value.

Thanks for the recommendation.
The Langoustine dish actually appeared almost as we prepare it in today's Irish Times as a classic modern Irish Cuisine example!! I guess it is a question of taste
We added freshly picked perriwinkles to the Risotto and a rich bisque as a sauce...yummy
I wish I could offer amazing value - the whole country is gone mad on driving prices down - but it is a triyumph to open our doors at all and serve the quality you received on the evening you dined. We continue to subsidise diners who choose to visit. The price you paid for dinner is not economic at the volume we achieve in a small village with a piopulation of 600 permenantly.
If we were in a city pershaps we could achieve better value but alas we are not and we have immense costs to pay.
A dinner of the quality produced is priced at over €60 elsewhere bu we are around €47.00
We could change to serving Pizza and Pasta for €20 but then we would not be true to the lovely hotel we have created
