The Inn at Dromoland
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 18, 2013

The Inn at Dromoland was quite a disappointment. The property is visibly aged, and gives no sense of comfort or relaxation. There are kids running rampant all over the property, many without adult supervision. The decor throughout the bar/restaurant/lobby appeared to have been selected at complete random. Upon checking in, the front desk associate asked if we wanted to upgrade to the 'refurbished' bedrooms for an extra €40 per night. We decided to see the standard room before making our decision, and upon arriving in our room, we immediately went back to reception to upgrade. The upgrade included a flat panel TV, new lighting fixtures and an updated bathroom. ***There is no A/C anywhere in the building.*** Not even the upgrade could help us there.
The hotel lies about 500 yards from the highway, and having to sleep with the windows open (due to no A/C) we could hear cars zipping by throughout the night.
We could hear people walking around their hotel room above us all night and the next morning.
We don't hate children, but do hate when they run around screaming as if the hotel is a playground.
We would HIGHLY encourage you to consider the Dromoland Castle Hotel three minutes away from the Inn at Dromoland.

Room Tip: Refurbished rooms have a view of the golf course, but also face the highway, which creates more nois...

Just back from a family holiday to the Inn at Dromoland. 2 adults and 3 kids aged 10,12 and 15. OK, so we got a good deal on Pigsback and we have stayed there before. It has been bough out by the Dromoland group but is no comparison to Dromoland Castle. The hotel has signs saying its going through a refurbishment. newly refurbished rooms cost 30e extra per night. We stayed in one room, were given room 261 first which had a nest of swallows at the window so we moved to 161. Dont stay in this room, no privacy, musty smell, back locked, not fan in bathroom and generally old and worn. Outside the room, people gathered to smoke and chat and the area was covered in butts. We had to keep the curtains shut for privacy.

Breakfast was farcical, long queues, no milk, no cereals or toast, long delays for tea/coffee etc. Generally the dining room was badly run.

I complained on checking out, was given a good reception and thanked for my feedback.
Positives, staff were friendly, lots of kids around for mine to play with. Lovely walk to Dromoland Castle through the back gate.
Negatives, rooms old and worn, breakfast poorly organised, pool old and quite deep.
This hotel should have closed to refurbish.
Doubt we will return.

Room Tip: Dont stay in room 161. Ask for a room facing the front of the hotel.

Our son picked this trip out for us in his Xmas present based on his memory lane from age of six, so we went for our 39th anniversary. The Inns hotel is in our view fabulously located, being adjacent to the utterly picturesque grounds and golf course of Dromoland Castle. The fabulous walks through Dromoland are open to residents, as is the great spa there - complete with resident discounts - with bar and terrific kitchen gardens too. We did not use what are a good gym and pool area at Inns. Their rooms were perfectly adequate, but golf course and mountain views were special - the reception as well as, we learned, about 25 have been modernised as part of a 3 yr prog since its acquisition by Dromoland. The Inns restaurant dinner food was not great we admit, and we did not try bar food, but breakfast was good. There were big weddings on each day which added to overall atmosphere. Surprisingly, even loud music nor noise does not disturbs your night due to its excellent low lying layout. The reception staff were universally excellent and so very pleasant even when so busy, they added so much to our stay,

The famous Durty Nellies pub is 20m mins away, which is still excellent for food and entertainment - situated beside Bunratty Castle and Folk Park with good tourist shops in the area. The whole of Clare can be traversed by car in one day from there to Ennis nearby, up the Coast to Kilkee, the famous Cliffs of Moher, musical Doolin, in time for sunset in Galway Bay and back through the historic Burren to name just a few of the many fab spots to visit. I guess we just love Clare, its so very beautiful, and this location is an excellent base from which to see it all,

Room Tip: Pay the upgrade and take one of the c.25 newly modernised rooms if you want to make it extra special

Absolutely great place, arrived half 2 Saturday and there we stayed till check out Monday morning! Children had a ball, both nights great family entertainment with Pandini the musician and Captains Jacks show - amazing! Food lovely - had food in bar on Saturday nite and dinner Sunday evening could not find fault with. Maureen in the restaurant is a "gem" and as a matter of fact there was no member of staff that we came across that did not acknowledge us during our stay. I was a bit sceptic for a long time with some of the reviews but after having tried it we will definitely be back and cannot wait :). .. Also the family room on the second floor was an extra plus never used it but will use it next time ........

Room Tip: Room 273 fine airy room for 2 adults and 2 children - separate wardrobe - great space
