Dromoland never disappoints. We have been here four times over the past 10 years. Our sons are now 21 and 26, they were 11 and 16 the first stay. Each time we love it. Elegant rooms, incredibly friendly service in the dining room, beautiful grounds. We stay here one or two nights, before leaving from Shannon and flying home. The golf course here isn't as good as the links courses we love in Ireland, but it isn't bad. You will enjoy it, along wtih the ducks and flowers and food and music.

We stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon and it was perfect. The room was large with a nice view and extremely clean. The turn down service was great because they took extra time to clean the room perfectly.

We slept past the normal breakfast time though we pre-paid for it and they let us order anything we wanted anyway as well as delivering it to our room quickly.

The grounds and castle are beautiful. It's an expensive hotel but it's worth it. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

The room had free internet service, Irish whiskey, great slippers and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was very large and clean as well.

Would recommend to anyone.

We ate dinner at the golf course and the veal was great!

It was my favorite stay on our 2 week honeymoon.

We were in Ireland for 11 days and were fortunate to stay in the Dromoland Castle for one night of our stay. We stayed in many other castles during the trip and this was by far our favorite. You are treated like royalty from the minute you walk through the door. The butler gives you a tour of the castle as he carries your bags to your room. In your room, there is a 36 inch plasma TV with free internet access, music and movie selections. In the sitting area, is a decanter of brandy with a hint of honey for your enjoyment (excellent by the way). The beds were comfortable and had the best pillows!

The sitting areas in the rest of this enormous castle were so cozy and comfortable. The food was great, the drinks were great, and the staff were great.

We also did some exploring on the ground floor and found several hidden ball rooms (no lights on, so we explored them in the dark), there were fresh white roses on the mahogany banister in one of the rooms. Very beautiful!

We will visit Ireland again just to stay at this castle again - next time for more than one night!

We travel extensively to different parts of Europe and always seem to be drawn back to Ireland and, especially, to Dromoland Castle. Our visits to Dromoland have been memorable due to the excellent attention to details, both by the Management and the Staff whom have been always willing to please and always very helpful. Cleanliness seems to be a priority which we've noticed in our room and throughout the Hotel.

The dining experience is quite memorable due to the way the meal is served and the table settings are so lovely. The Restaurant Manager and Staff have been very polite and accommodating and, of course, the food is beautifully prepared and very delicious! We certainly would not hesitate to make Dromoland Castle a priority whenever we visit Ireland in the future and we highly recommend it to others who are looking for a first class place to experience.

My wife and I stayed at the Dromoland Castle as part of our wedding anniversary celebration. We had high expectations after hearing about it from our travel agent and checking it out online. It was expensive, but we usually stay at 5 star properties around the world so we have an idea of what we are paying for, rather, we thought we did.

The property and grounds are fascinatingly attracttive from the outside as you approach. We were excited about our first castle stay. The staff were very friendly and warmly greeted us. We were, however, a little surprised at the condition of the lobby which looked tired and worn for a 5 star property. We were personally shown to our room which turned out to be in what appeared to be an addition to the castle. Our room was located in the back and overlooked a courtyard that led to what appeared to be the laundry. It was small and in less than pristine condition. The carpet in the hallway outside was stained and in dire need of replacement. The trash can in the bathroom had a broken foot pedal that did not lift the lid, the bathroom door was swollen and would not close without having to force it, the knob on the bathroom door had a cover that was loose, and the shower alternated between hot and cold water.

We had afternoon tea in a not so peaceful setting. The waiter dropped off our tea and commenced setting up an adjoining room for a tour group. We had tables, chairs, and drink bottles constantly paraded in front of us as the waiters went in and out of the room. No one checked on us until we were ready for the bill which included a 15% gratuity as a matter of policy.

I'm not sure by whom or when this hotel was rated 5 stars. It appears this is a hotel set up to handle tour groups and conferences of which there were several. It's overrated and not worth the very high room rate. I would look elsewhere if you are looking for a true 5 star experience. We will not be returning and plan to let our travel agent know.

We were attending a wedding at the hotel, and as we always do if possible, decided to stay at the venue. Given the relatively huge room rate coupled with many of the reviews on here we were really excited about our stay, expecting something really special - how wrong could we be.... The castle itself is set in beautiful grounds and the entrance particularly impressive. It seemed even better as we were informed we were being upgraded to a deluxe room. Eagerly opening the door we were greeted by possibly the most hideously decorated room i have ever seen - straight out the 70's and really quite shabby. The decent size of the room didnt even come close to allaying my disappointment. After unpacking I had a shower, thinking someone had entered my room, i ran back in to see who had entered - no one! there was an adjoining door between our room and next which meant that you could hear absolutely everything coming from the next door room - ordering room service, phone conversations, even the chink of the glass as someone was having a drink. I later went to comment on this at reception but the person there just did not seem interested. I didnt want a room move as i had already unpacked (they were full anyway) but wanted to make my comments known to the manager as this really wasnt what i would expect from a hotel of this supposed class. The manager was unavailable and never got back to me during my stay.

I then went over to the golf course - really stunning and hugly enjoyable... until we went back to the club house! After waiting at the bar for over 10 minutes, I was blatantly ignored as someone else came in and was served straight away; 'sorry, they're regulars' said the barmaid. I couldnt believe the blatant rudeness. We then ordered some food which was bought over to a table by the manager. The table had no chairs (we had to find these ourselves) and i asked for a wine menu - met with a sneer. Surprise surprise, it never turned up....

Later we went to the hotel bar - ordering a round of drinks i was told it was x amount. I asked it to be charged to my room and to my surprise saw a 10% service charge had been added. I asked for this to be taken off as i was standing at the bar only to be told that all charges to the room incur a 10% charge. I then asked to see the manager who wouldnt remove it and said the same thing - i really couldnt believe that it costs 10% more to charge things to the room than to pay by card or cash. I then went to see reception about this rather than continue an argument at the bar. Again, the staff were totally unconcerned and said 'it was just policy'. I was flabbergasted and again asked to see the manager - not there....

Back into the bar, the room was full of Americans who were over attending a 'Piggly Wiggly' conference. I spoke to a chap at the bar in his 40's who was on his first trip out of the states. This really for me summed up the whole ethos of the hotel - an attempt to blatantly rip off these american tourists expecting an 'authentic' castle experience. The service and standards are so far below similar quality hotels i have stayed at before it is untrue, yet this is way up there with the most expensive - I still can't quite figure how they have the audacity to charge that amount. Shannon airport has direct flights to/from the US and these are obviously the target customer.

My advice to non US residents is stay away - you will be horribly disappointed at wasting your money. To the Americans - dont believe the hype - there are far better, more impressive hotels throughout the UK offering much better value. Please don't waste your money and come away feeling like you've been mugged as i was....

We just returned from Ireland and were thrilled with our stay at Dromoland Castle! Sure it was pricey but its a CASTLE and a lovely one at that.. Our extended family enjoyed our last night in Ireland in the spacious and well appointed rooms, no A/C but not unusual for Ireland.Anyway the grounds were spectacular, Grandma relaxed while the guys enjoyed the golf and the kids and Moms enjoyed the large pool and spa area (indoors). Before dinner we had time for a walk around the gardens and some shopping at the Bellek shop(my daughter and I had a great time buying from and chatting with Bryan). We enjoyed a formal dinner at the Castle(FYI they lend nice jackets to those who do not bring one) and wrapped up our evening chatting with other guests in the bar room.We met a nice couple who cheerfully stated that their room was quite haunted but since they hadn't changed rooms after 3 nights I am guessing there was more creaking than shrieking. Something for everyone and great photo ops. Splurge and enjoy some ancient charm.
