We stayed here as part of our tour with Adventures by Disney. The rooms were large and comfortable. The service was professional and polite. My only complaint would be the blankets that were used on the beds instead of a more comfortable down comfortable. Breakfast was included and was exceptional. They offered a very nice afternoon tea in the lounge which was tasty. There are many amenities, some are free(large outdoor chess set was fun) and others are at some cost. Of the ones we tried, the Hawk Walk was fantastic. My teenage daughter was amazed as we all were. The ride thru the grounds on the pony cart with Sean was fun as well. We did the Teddy Bear picnic for one with extra settings. There was lots of food--good selection and even fun in he rain. The only disappointing activity was the golf cart. We toured the facility but didn't realizes that we were allowed to use the cart path. Ad a golfer, my husband said he would not want someone driving past as he was hitting. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are clean and food is plentiful if a bit expensive. Great for a celebratory occasion. How can you go wrong with staying at a castle!

Dear Irene M

Thank you for your very positive comments on your recent stay. We have introduced duvets in some of our rooms in an effort to get feedback as to what is most popular with our guests. In the tradition of an old world castle the majority prefer the traditional blanket setting but I think the solution may be to offer duvets if preferred. Thank you for your feedback in this regard.

We are delighted you enjoyed the estate activities and hope to welcome you back soon

Sincerely

Mark Nolan - General Manager

If you are looking to treat yourself, this is the place to do it! It's not cheap - but you get what you pay for. We did a special spa package that included Castle stay, full Irish breakfast, a 55 Minute Signature Spa Treatment per person followed by a visit to the exterior Hydro Therapy pool and then Spa Lunch in the Gallery. Since our time was limited we wanted to change up the order and have lunch first, then soak and relax in the hydro pool (a large hot tub) and then do massages. That was no problem. The experience was wonderful and the staff very accommodating. This is a great treat in the middle of a 10 day tour around Ireland.

We stayed in a Queen Anne room that overlooked the enclosed Queen Anne Garden Courtyard. The room was lovely – but our view was not of the expansive grounds. I would ask for a different room for my next stay.

The gardens and castle are so picturesque! The grounds are lovely and we walked much of it.

I love breakfast and the breakfast buffet was spectacular – the best I’ve ever had – from anywhere, ever. Our lunch was amazing – the very best Irish seafood stew that I had the whole trip. Dinner was lovely – we ate in the more informal grand hallway since we didn’t bring appropriate clothes to dress for the dining room dinner. Same food is served and we enjoyed it very much. Would highly recommend for a special castle stay in a very special place.

My family and I went to Dromoland for my parents to renew their wedding vows. The ceremony was beautiful and very well done - such a special place for it! While we were staying there, we also took part in a falconry lesson which is definitely a must-do! Dave provides an educational experience and an up close and personal afternoon with hawks and other birds of prey. We also took an archery lesson, which was fun too. The spa here is beautiful and just won an award for best facial in Ireland! The dinner restaurant is not to be missed to truly treat yourself!

We stayed in this wonderful castle hotel in Feb 2013 in celebration of a 90th birthday. The whole experience was magnificent. Once the ancestral home of the Earls of Thomand the castle has been expertly converted into a 5 star hotel complete with tasteful reproductions of the original portraiture and suits of armour. The floors and stairs squeak as expected for a 19th centuary castle adding to the charm. The bedrooms, off long narrow winding corridors are large and very nicely appointed with modern remodelled bathrooms and appliances. As an American off the "red-eye" at the very adjacent Shannon Airport I was expected and welcomed by the "family" in the baronial foyer. A cat-nap later followed by a late lunch in the old Library (replete with a large Staffordshire collection) with a hearty soup and heaps of brown bread and smoked salmon washed down with a snifter - "to keep out the damp" sir! -I felt like a Lord. Evening "table d'hote" in the baronial dinning room was perfect. Soft spoken maitre d' permits small substitutions from the a-la-carte -whatever your lordship pleases. Ramble the exquisite grounds to work off the Irish Breakfast-beware of golfers! Swim in the adjacent in-door pool. Check out the Falconry for sure or the quaintly appointed spa if you must. One of the best things about this hotel is the magnificent service from a staff who make you feel like a welcome visitor to their home. Not cheap but a cherished experience for my family and the best in Irish hospitality.

Room Tip: Stay in the Castle not the Annex

Stayed at Dromoland in June for two nights. The accomodations were satisfactory, not plush, but clean. No air conditioning, so our room was stuffy and hot at night. The spa facilities were poorly designed but the services provided were excellent and the spa staff was especially attentative. The spa product line is exceptional. One night our dining experience took almost three hours. The service was very slow and the food was not memorable. Overall it seems to be a commercialized Irish experience. However, the housekeeping staff gladly expressed how much they loved their job and couldn't say enough about how nice it was to work at the resort. Visit and you decide. Slainte.

Room Tip: Room size varies trememdously from room to room due to the nature of the resort.

Dear Askier55,

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay, I was sorry to read of your dissatisfaction with the design of our Spa, which is a relatively new addition to the castle. I would welcome any further feedback on how we may improve on the layout.

Air conditioning is a challenge in a historic building and as such we are restricted in what we can do but I do hope you were supplied with an electric fan to help make your stay more comfortable.

Certainly three hours is a long time for your fine dining meal which I will investigate with my restaurant team. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I would again welcome any further feedback on your dining experience.

Sincere thanks for posting your review which allows us to develop and improve our overall service. I would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss the issues raised while you were staying with us but equally I look forward to further exchange with you.

Sincerely

Mark Nolan - General Manager

This is the most amazing experience! We booked this as our special treat for a 50th Birthday present in Ireland. It was everything we expected it to be. The staff are amazing and nothing is a problem to them. The standard of service is exceptional. Our room was incredible with the most amazing view!! The gardens and castle are so picturesque! We availed ourselves of many of the activiites such as falconry, horse drawn cart tour of the gardens and golf, all met our expectations. the food and dining experience is to die for.The cost is up there but you get what you pay for but just go prepared as it isn't cheap but well worth it!!!
