“A luxurious afternoon tea at Dromoland Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2012

Went for Afternoon Tea here with some friends. It's a luxurious and indulgent way to spend a few hours, if somewhat expensive. The selection of sandwiches, scones and pastries was very good. We found the staff friendly and helpful. Price is not on the website, so it may be helpful to let readers know that Afternoon Tea cost 23 Euro per person + 16.35% service charge

“5 star price not 5 star treatment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2012

I recently had a 3 night stay at dromoland a christmas treat for my husband (we're newly weds) and also incorporating a wedding. The first night we were well greeted at the entrance and made feel welcome. We had dinner in the Gallery my husband ordered his main to be told 10mins later there was none left of his choice hotel was not booked out and the restaurant was doing a slow trade first night open back after xmas a poor showing they should have taken it off the menu and informed us before orders taken. 30mins after our mains they decided to ask were we finished inspite of not even being offered a dessert menu we ordered dessert and had to wait 40mins for its arrival, our table was coverd in champange as the waiter was not trained in how to pour a simple bottle of wine.
We ordered breakfast to our room the next morning to which instead of our menu choices the kitchen decided to send up whatever they felt we should have on our tray, with most of my breakfast option missing.
Being in the area we decided to do an activity. we went for clay shooting from being picked up at the door firing our rounds and dropped back to the hotel took all of 25mins at a cost of 130 for two making it nearly 5euro a minute for the activity. after the shoot we went for afternoon tea only to be greeted by a grumbling lady who looked down at us as if to say we didnt belong and where did we think we were going, however when I managed to stress we were residents the attitude thawed somewhat.
Off to dinner with us on our third night in to the Earl of thomond there was a gun shot pellet in my husbands pheasant, yet again they had ran out of our choice of desserts, and my warm cheesecake had just come out of the fridge to which i was told you cant really heat cheesecake as it would curdle well then leave it as a cold dish on the menu or at least a room temp.
On the morning of our departure we were rudely awoken at 9am by a lady to clean our room as it was our check out day she came in to our room again at 11 inspite of check out at 12.
The outdoor hydro pool was freezing again this was put down to the climate outside inspite of the temperature of the water coming from the jets being luke warm at best,
By the end of what was to be a relaxing christmas break I was left feeling more infuriated and frustrated by the time I was leaving. All in all Dromoland Castle is overrated.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

Dinner was a true white-glove experience. There were 4 or 5 courses, a harp player, a sommelier that made a great pairing between my entree and a wine, the food was fantastic, the dessert was divine ..... just an over-the-top wonderful experience.

everything about Dromoland is superb and absolutely nothing is left to chance. It is something that we can be very proud of and worth every penny it costs

“Afternoon Tea for one is too much for two!”

Very stylish, expensive and a nice bit of luxury when it's miserable outside.
