Description: The Drift Inn bar and restaurant Buncrana is one like no other, set against the windswept banks of the Lough Swilly it stands out as a main vocal point on entrance to the town. The Drift Inn has a history which many will agree compares to no other bars in Buncrana, once a functioning railway station up until the mid 1900's it has kept this theme very close to the heart of the bar with original railway timetables still to be seen on the walls of the premises and the water tower once used to fill steam trains standing tall at the rear of the premises. The drift Inn also has a strong connection with the sea as our name would suggest, the connection is carried through the bar and restaurant with our boat shaped bar the "St.Jude" standing strong over these many years having many drinks crossing her deck. The has a wide variety of areas for each patron to enjoy a drink or a bit to eat, the more relaxed harness room is an old favourite of many patrons with the open fire always blazing, the main bar boasts an open brick fire which ha been know the burn full trees in one day (depending on the staff working), then we have the more private "wee room" with a piano incase anyone is feeling musical after a few stout (which many think is the best pint of stout in the town). There is also two tv's which play all major sporting events and can be split between two to meet everybodys needs.

I had a very pleasant dinning experience at The Drift. Lovely food, but in particular the waitress was brilliant (short blonde hair and glasses), and very professional. She listed all the specials and tended to all our needs.

A much better experience than the Red Door.

I'd wanted to eat at the Drift Inn for a long time, finally went recently and was not disappointed at all. The atmosphere is great, nice and intimate with no noise coming through from the bar next door. The waiter helpfully told us that the fish and chips we'd seen on the online menu was only on their bar menu, and promptly fetched this menu for us to look over as well. The duck leg starter was spectacular, tender and tasty. The chowder was also excellent and the Guinness bread is a must try. The fish and chips then arrived and was also top-notch, the chips are crispy and fluffy and the fish is well battered, the only criticism being that it was slightly bland but this is really nitpicking. After finishing these two huge portions I managed to find room for the pecan brownie and was delighted I did so. All this food for two people as well as a couple of bottles of wine for under £80 is great value considering the quality.

Beautiful unique bar and restaurant with wonderful staff, a huge selection of wine, beers and spirits that never runs out, best log fires about that makes for an amazing ambiance and exquisite food that never fails to leave me wanting to come back for more.

The Drift Inn is the ideal place for anyone staying next door at the Gateway hotel as it is literally a 2 minute stroll away and everything you could possibly need is contained in this well preserved old railway station.

Great outdoor space at the rear of the building for parking up and chilling at the outdoor tables with a nice cold pint in the Summer! (Or a hot port more suitable for the weather!)
Always a place to meet an interesting character or two and one of them places once you get inside you don't want to leave!
They have the best Karaoke about on Friday night and on Saturday evenings they have only the best live bands playing till late!
I thoroughly love this place the food is amazing, especially the sell out specials that are available every weekend, its obvious the chefs know good food and its an added bonus as all the ingredients are sourced locally!!
This place is well known for the most amazing Seafood Chowder and my other favourites include the oatmeal and fennel crusted Tipperary goats cheese and the Drift Inn Famous half pound steak burger with Old Dubliner cheese and Ballymaloe relish, this food is the best of the best and not a place nearby comes close to the standards that the Drift Inn reaches.

I thoroughly love this place and make it my priority to take family and friends there anytime I'm in Buncrana or near the North West of Ireland at all. I don't often write many reviews but this is one I'll happily take a minute to do as this is thoroughly well deserved!

Its so great to see people putting thought and effort into making a great business successful and including the local businesses with it!

Keep it up guys!

This is a nice restaurant with delicious food. However we felt it was a little expensive, service was ok. The bar area was small but cosy. Somewhere we would go back to for a special treat.
