“GREAT Family Vacation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

We booked a house here for a one week family vacation. The process was easy, and we had no idea what to expect. Our family (two adults, two teenages, and three younger boys) had a wonderful time, with a lot to do on-site. Though we did travel Ireland (decent location for visiting sites), there was more than enough to do right there. The staff (front desk, restraunt, and activities) were great and went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. Our last day (Good Friday), they put together an activities program for the six of us, including archery, air rifle, canoes, and ropes, which everyone from the youngest to the oldest, absolutely loved ... and then provided these services at a greatly discounted rate. The price of the house and the activities were a great deal. The only down part is the restraunt was a bit pricey, but that is to be expected at a resort ... we usually went to a pub or store in town for eating (though evening drinks at the bar were always good).

I recently stayed at Avon Ri for a weekend and it was the perfect spot. We rented 5 of the houses on site and I have to say they were perfect. The only complaint - and it's not really a complaint at all - is that the houses were very hot in the morning so remember to turn off the heat before you go to bed. Also the water pressure in the showers is a little low.

Other than those minor things the location was fantastic and I particularly have to point out the staff on reception, who went out of their way to be helpful over the weekend. Nothing was too big a problem. We rented out bikes and did a tour of the resevoir, great fun and suitable for even the most unfit cyclist.

We didn't eat in the hotel or use the pool so I can't comment on them. We were lucky with the weather, which was lovely and there were lots of families about on Sunday enjoying the walks and the zip wire beside the lake. It's a lovely spot for children, especially with the hens and chicken and goats, plus there is loads to do without having to leave the resort or Blessington general area. I would have no hesitation in recommending this venue for a weekend away, especially for a group.

I am a little late writing this review, I actually stayed here for a few days in June 2011. There were 4 adults and 3 children in all, and there was more than enough room for everyone. Our house had 3 bedrooms, one huge double with ensuite and another large double on the ground floor which was right beside the bathroom, so as good as an ensuite. And also a smaller twin room upstairs. The living space was open plan with kitchen, dining area and living room. Again, this was a good size. The was no garden, but there was a sitting area outside, however this was not private and there didn’t seem to be seats allocated to each house, there seemed to be a bit of pinching of seats going on! All the fixtures and fittings were excellent and the furnishing and decoration throughout was to a very high standard.

The location of this resort is absolutely stunning, the lake is beautiful and there is a very nice walk along the lake shore. Or you can simply enjoy the view from the deck of the bar! You could easily spend you whole time in the resort and not get bored, but you are quite close to Dublin, Naas, Newbridge, Glendalough etc if you fancy doing a bit of touring. I personally did not use any of the leisure facilities, but my sister and the kids used the pool and enjoyed it. There is also loads of sporting facilities available at an extra charge.

We ate in both the bar and the restaurant and both were excellent. The restaurant was beautiful and both the food and service were top notch. The staff were very welcoming, even though we had a double buggy with us which required a bit of furniture moving! We felt the restaurant offered excellent value for money. The bar food was also good, however the service was a bit more chaotic here. The beautiful views over the lake made up for this though!

All in all, we loved our few days here, we would definitely stay here again. It can be expensive in high season, but it is one of the self catering options on the Super Value Getaway breaks, which makes it very affordable.

Although i was only at Avon Ri centre for one day and did not stay overnight, i was very impressed with the beauty of the place, the facilities available and the beautiful sheltered waters of the reservoir.

Room Tip: I did not stay overnight.

Recently stayed here for a family gathering, we had a 3 bedroom house for 6 adults and two young kids. The house was warm and well equipped and made the perfect base for our stay, while we did not get involved in any of the activities offered there seamed plenty to do on the property. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and was very pleased with the food and service we received.

Just returned from a one week break with my my wife and three children (4, 2, 3 months).
We wanted a relaxing break so resort activities such as boats, archery were not interesting.
Good
House was fine and clean. Good location for Wicklow mountain drives, lakes.
Friendly staff. Playground was fine.
Animals on site, hens goats. Nice for kids.
Bad
Pool is constant depth of 1.4m. No shallow end. Unsuitable for toddlers. Big dissapointment. No family changing room. Bar service (food) really slow.
Could not lock house doors internally. Kids could easily open them. Locked by knobs not keys.
Showers in house are useless.
One night was really noisy. If there are functions in the main bar this place could be a nightmare at night.

I would be afraid to recommend this at peak times.

I was at a hen in Avon Ri last weekend. The 3 bed houses were excellent! extremely well kitted out, with 2 ensuites and a large bathroom! The surrounding area is so beautiful, with gorgeous views of the lake! Breakfast was a continental one, with pastries/toast & cereals on offer! We got a bus to Naas on the saturday night, organised by Avon Ri, Naas is only a 15-20min drive away. We also had a delcious dinner on the saturday night that was included in the price. €140 for 2 nights B&B, evening dinner and 3 activities (kayaking, Segway & orienteering). We;d an instructor called Brian who was sound out!
