Warm cosy atmosphere, familiar faces- staff have been there fro years- nice touch. Huge menu, portions are large but selection so great when you're in a group to please everyone. Value for money. Early bird in the bar is my favourite choice.

We arrived at the Thatch for lunch time today 6th Sept 2013, with our son daughter in law and our grandson, and our table was prepared and ready together with the baby high chair we had requested when we booked the table last week. They welcomed us and we were shown to our table. Service was very good if a tad slow, but saying that with the large size of meals this is no bad thing. The restaurant and staff were very good in accommodating my 16 month old grandson by providing a small bowl for him to share our meals as there was plenty of vegetables and potatoes to share with him. There was no problem even when he decided he had had enough dinner and wanted to explore the rest of the restaurant. The meals as always were well cooked plentiful and tasty. Standard lunches come with either chips and side salad (which is a meal on its own) or potatoes and vegetables. Staff were excellent and families seemed to be welcomed and catered for with open arms. Main meals at lunch time range from 10 to 13 euros and therefore are excellent value. We will be calling in again. Lunch time men seems better value than the early bird menu served after 3:00pm

This is a restaurant that we have visited many times in the last few years and have always found it to be good value and nice food. Unfortunately on our last visit we have found that the standards have slipped considerably. We first had a drink in the bar which is a lovely quaint and quiet area. On this visit, the bar person was quite loud spoken and everyone present definately knew what we were drinking!!! We browsed through the menu which we felt has been gutted of some of the finer dishes from previous visits. We eventually settled on two steaks. The waitress came to take our order and we specifically asked to have one steak rare to medium and the second medium.......she even showed us her notepad where she had her instruction written......just a pity the kitchen staff didn't read it........both steaks were way over cooked. We asked for a wine list in the restaurant and eventually we had to call somebody to order a bottle as our starter was almost finished. As I say main course was a disaster. Desert was nice.....again we had to ask for teas and coffees. Plenty of staff on the floor, cant understand why they were not more attentive to each table. At no stage did anybody come to the table to see if we were OK or if we needed anything. We were seated next to a curtain, which I assume had either a door or a window behind it, but it was so cold that I ate my entire meal with my coat on and my husband felt equally as cold. Its a pity the standard has slipped as this was a very fine restaurant........hopefully it will take note and improve again.
