“Valentine's day dinner for 2”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

As in title,I brought my other half to this restaurant as I was curious with the awards this place had achieved!
We booked a table a week in advance which was no problem and arrived about 10mins late again no problem. It had a very nice atmosphere and the waitress were very pleasant. It was a set menu that night with a
glass of prosecco .for starters I had the crab
and prawn cakes and she had the seafood chowder which were awesome!best chowder in cork!sorry liberty grill ;-) crab cakes were tasty and fresh!for mains I had the hake which were cooked to perfection and herself had the supreme chicken which wasn't dry! Had ordered a portion of homemade chips which were awesome! But too full to finish lol. For dessert I got an apple pudding with apple homemade ice cream and herself got the chocolate tapas which puts the cherry on the cake! So full and well worth it!will be goin back again :-) see ya soon poachers inn.

“Over priced, terrible staff attitude, no atmosphere”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

This is not a restaurant i would ever choose. I have been twice with friends who organised a group night out. On the first occasion the steak was very tough and fatty while the chips were like rocks and the salad was a few green leaves. The desert just ice-cream but the portion was ridiculously small for the price.
On the second occasion the waitress offered to arrange the chicken dish plain as I do not like sauces. I was served a plain breast of chicken on the bone with chips, no salad was served. When I paid i questioned the staff member about the price as it seem high for just chicken and chips so she went to check with another staff member. The member of staff asked did I not think it was enough as I was given extra chips. Well if I received "extra chips" I would really hate to see a standard portion.

“Excellent Gastropub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

Have eaten here many times, I make the trip
from Cork city especially to eat here. The food is excellent, fish is always fresh from the boat and the steak sandwich is also fabulous value. Yes, you are eating in a bar but it doesn't pretend to be anything but a fantastic bar that serves food. Everything is made on site, nothing is frozen (i asked). Plenty of free parking, chilled home made meals for purchase and children are welcome. What more could you want?

“Bit expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

I have eaten here a few times, food is always excellent but it is a bit pricey especially when you are sitting in the bar area. They dont open the resturant upstairs till 8pm which is too late to be eating. They pack the bar with as many tables as they can. one couple were sitting next to the mens toilets which is jsut wrong. Where we were sitting everyone had to walk around us to get to the small bar or to get to the other tables. People were standing around us while they were waiting on tables., it made us feel uncomfortable. Staff are friendly Haven't gone there since

“"Bad Value" for Pricey Menu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

Have been a patron since its opening as restaurant. Always liked food, but its a "Big Starter",rather than a Main Course. Crab & Salmon fish Cakes served with little salad, no veg
or chips (Extra at €3.50). Not fulfilling as a meal. Better value elsewhere in region. Crab Bake gone up by €1 but less crab on plate, served with small salad at €19.95.....not enough side dishes served with meals for prices charged...not cheap.
