We got one of those "GrabOne" coupons and stayed here for two nights, and were pleasantly surprised by the good value we got. It's a fine hotel in the hearth of Bunratty, so one can park the car in the ample car park and walk to all the local attractions. On our arrival on Sat morning we found the hotel quite busy [probably all cheap skates like us with coupons!!!] which I found unusual for this time of year. We were given room 438, which is about a half mile away from the reception, but it was a grand room. It reminded me of a smaller version of a "Harvey's Point" room, even the missus agreed with me on this :-] However, there are only 3 floors to this place [ground, 1st & 2nd] so I assumed that they get a lot of American guests. They should have supplied us all with "segways" at check-in, and sat-navs!!!
So, after we freshened up a bit we hit the sights, all 3 of them, and after all the excitment, we decided to retire to the hotel bar, "Kathleens". It looks lovely and cosy, but in reality,it's a soul less bar. It was busy as there was some wedding fare on, but not a patch on Durty Nelly's across the road. The staff were lovely but unfortunately even they could not save it, pity.
We called it a day and headed up on the long trek back to the room to watch the small flat screen, which could have been situated near the seating area. I had to squint over from the coach to see it, and that was not because I had a few pints on-board!!!
In the morning, after a lovely sleep on the ample sized bed, we headed down for the breakfast, which was a buffet. The breakfast room was awful looking, I have seen better work canteens. It was drab, no character at all, and the grub was not hot, but had it been, it would have been very nice indeed. I would loved to have seen a toaster there for the guests to do their own. The next morning the breakfast was on the 3rd floor, in the library, which is a different animal altogether. A beautiful room with real character, probably the best in the hotel, but again the breakfast was not hot. The food was in big containers with no devices to keep it warm. What are the hotel trying to do to their customers, turn them away??
All in all, we had a great stay here, but with a few improvements it would have been fantastic. I can still taste those cold rashers in my mouth and wished I brought a microwave with me!! If they improved their breakfasts, I would definately return, but if brekkies are not your thing, don't let me put you off.
