This was our first stop after hitting the ground in Ireland... it's not too far from the Shannon Airport. I think we were a bit TOO excited and not thinking about the price: 15 euro per person!!! We enjoyed venturing through the castle but looking back, it certainly wasn't worth that much money! It made us think twice about paying to enter any other castles for the remainder of the trip. We were just as happy getting photos of the castles from the outside rather than paying an arm and a leg to go inside. Also: if you plan on touring multiple castles, look into group discounts. Not sure if Bunratty is involved in something like that but it's worth a look and definitely something to keep in mind when planning your trip.

The folk part of this attraction was great showing a slice of life in rural Ireland in years gone by. Even though it was July when we went we managed to take photographs of te main street without the intrusion of people. The castle itself was something else however. Other reviewers have commented on the staircases which are steep and narrow (as one would espect in an old castle). There is a sort of "one way" system which clearly only works if visitors stick to the rules. They don't! And the castle was packed. So often you meet others coming up the stairs when you're trying to go down and vice versa. My wife got so fed up with this she sat outside and didn't get the full experience which was a shame. It's probably better to visit out of the main summer season.

Trash all over the park not very well maintained. Staff was limited so not many people around to talk about history of castle.

We stayed at the Briar Lodge, then went down the hill to the castle. We loved the castle as well as the shops across the street!
