“Hits the spot after exploring Bunratty Castle”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

My wife and I drove from Galway in the morning to Bunratty Castle. After a drive of about 1.5 hours and 3 hours or so at Bunratty Castle we headed across the street for lunch at Durty Nelly’s.

The food and the service were both very good. The pub and the restrooms were clean. Both the staff and other patrons were friendly and offered us some tips for driving around and exploring the area. Nelly’s made for a nice lunch break after exploring Bunratty Castle, we would stop there again.

Its worth mentioning that if you’ve only had a Guinness in the U.S., then you owe it to yourself to have a pint overseas; the Guinness we end up with the States is skunked by comparison. If a stout just isn’t your thing, Bulmer’s Irish Cider gets two thumbs up from my wife and I. Give it a try.

“Could be improved, but a good spot”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

Ate here when we were staying at the Dromoland and wanted more of a local experience, however found that it was mostly tourists anyway. Food was good, but service was sorely lacking. Given the previous reviews, I was actually quite surprised. I can't complain much, having paid four times as much for fish and chips at the castle - with Durty Nelly's being far superior. The food is definitely worth the price, and the place has great ambiance. Perhaps they were understaffed the day I was there.

“Revival required.”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Durty Nelly's is very tired. I had a good morning coffee and observed many tourists wandering in and out, crying out for attention and a good experience. This establishment has been tarted down and abused beyond any recognition of an authentic old Irish pub experience.
