“Lovely stay”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

A great choice of hotel and beautiful at any time of year. We had a courtyard room which was lovely and spacious with views over the gardens. The restaurant food was excellent and beautifully presented. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for downstairs room if you can't do stairs as there are no lifts.

Recently attended a wedding at this hotel. Can only say that everything was excellent. A real castle experience (beautiful for the Christmas season). We slept in the cottages at the back of the hotel and imagine they would be beautiful on a nice summers evening. Good option for a family gathering. Make sure to pay a visit to Dun-a-Ri park opposite the hotel for some great walking and space for kids to run and play. Will definitely be back.

spent a night here at a family wedding . fabulous spot, really spectacular when driving up to the castle. very easy to get lost in the castle especially if your staying in the little houses out the back. would love to go back in the summer and have a round of golf. just one thing I have to fault.... we ordered breakfast to be delivered but when it came it was cold. but it was one of the coldest days of the year. all in all fab place.

Room Tip: don't have breakfast delivered as it is not worth the 10euro extra.. it was cold by the time it...

Cabra Castle was the best hotel we stayed at on our entire 10 day CIE independent tour. We were there for only one delightful night (Sunday 10/20/13) We immediately saw Oscar the Irish Wolfhound laying in the driveway, but he was definitely getting older and seemed to just want to lie there and enjoy everyone petting him. Check-in was a breeze with Irene's help.

There are rooms in the castle, courtyard rooms and newer cottage rooms. After reading TA reviews, I had emailed Cabra Castle and had requested a courtyard room on the 2nd floor. That's exactly what we got room 67 - even more special than I had imagined - as it was a corner room with two original field stone walls each with a large picture window. The ceiling was vaulted and had beams with 6 spot lights pointing towards the ceiling. Beautifully furnished with a king bed with a small table and two red upholstered chairs, a TV, a dresser with vanity mirror (hairdryer in drawer) and a Queen Ann chair, floor lamp and a coffee/tea service tray. In the closet was a safe and an ironing board & iron. We were able to park our car right in front of the building.

The en suite bath was also a beamed ceiling and had a whirlpool tub with underwater lights and 1/2 shower door, a large rain shower head, a heated towel rack, Gilcrest & Soames hand soap near decorative sink. Gilcrest & Soames body wash & shampoo were in large wall attached bottles. In the bathroom there was a small window that opened to the courtyard walled garden.

Our traveling companions had courtyard room 55 and they were on the 1st floor, they had a canopy bed, beamed ceiling, a door that lead to the stone courtyard with a small wrought iron table & chair set.

We also met our neighbors in room 65 and they had a claw foot tub in their bedroom plus a large walk-in shower in the bathroom. So it appears that each room in the courtyard is quite different!

A few safety notes: 2nd floor rooms in the courtyard only have stairs, there is a slight incline to get into room, we had a skeleton key to lock our room and we were told at night to lock the skeleton key in from the inside and leave it in the door.

Glad we did not get a castle room - no elevator and some rude people going through the halls talking loudly. There are signs in the castle pointing towards the main lobby, Derby Bar and dining room.

We had a small evening snack in the Derby Bar. Husband had the smaller portion of Fiery Chicken Curry with 1/2 rice and 1/2 potato for €9.95. I had the Cajun Chicken Sandwich with cheddar & bacon with a side of Seasoned wedges instead of the fries €11.95. Both came with a side salad.

The furniture, sculptures, fireplaces, knights armor, decor, architecture and paintings in the castle are amazing. There is a small gift shop. There is a golf course (which we didn't have time to play)

I would love to be rich enough to stay in each and every one of the 68 courtyard rooms - just to see which one would be my favorite!

Room Tip: I would highly recommend the courtyard rooms. I would love to be rich enough to stay in each and eve...

We spent one night here in December 2013. It was a stormy night with a howling wind, so we didn't get to see the grounds at all, instead we battened down the hatches in this beautiful hotel. The staff were very friendly and the room was amazing, very spacious.

We had a beautiful meal in the restaurant which was reasonably priced. We ordered breakfast in bed which wasn't so great, but the fact that it wAsnt very warm probably didn't help.

We would definitely return here, but maybe would eat breakfast in the restaurant next time.

We stayed 2 nights in this fabulous Castle at the end of October. The location is remote and peaceful and yet easily accessible. The Castle is fabulous in its ancient splendour and when first glimpsed through the trees is a most welcoming sight. Accommodation is available in the Castle and in the Courtyard. We stayed in a room in the Castle, complete with four poster bed, ,separate dressing room and magnificent bathroom with a raised bath. The ambience was magical as was the view from our windows on the highest floor.
The bar was a delight with its open fire and library snug. Dinner in the restaurant was nothing short of a feast. Oscar the Irish Wolfhound accompanied us on our walk through the grounds. Dún a Rí forest park across the road was a haven and the autumnal colours provided the perfect backdrop.
To experience Cabra Castle in Autumn was a treat and I am already looking forward to my next visit no matter what the season.

I'll make this review short and sweet! Got married here in Sept '13 and had a perfect experience from start to finish! Cannot find a single complaint from myself and my wife or any of the 200+ guests! Staff literally could not have done more for us,and everybody from cleaners to bar staff to management was above and beyond polite!!!
If I could rate cabra castle with six stars,I would do so without thinking twice!!! Unbelievable venue (and superb value)!!!
