We stayed here in November as I had booked dinner as a surprise for my wife and wanted to stay over and be able to enjoy a nice bottle of wine. As someone who is familiar with the good and the not so good hotels around the country, the vast majority not warranting my time in writing a review on Trip Advisor, I was interested to experience this hotel on the outskirts of the county town. I drive past on a very regular basis as I live only twelve kilometres away. Indeed, I have sometimes chosen the hotel for regional management training events when I had the choice of hotels across six counties. But what would it be like for a personal visit?

And so we arrived to a very warm welcome at Reception. It was quiet, as it is in most hotels at present, but it was certainly not deserted. At check in I was taken by surprise at the very kind gesture by management to upgrade us. This was not just any upgrade but an upgrade to the Kingscourt Suite on the fourth floor. This is a very large room in modern style with sitting area and entrance hallway. The bathroom was large and offered a large shower and bath. There was an outdoor space, accessed directly from the bedroom. The only downside was that this area was fully enclosed with high wooden panel fencing so that there was no view but plenty of fresh air. It had been used clearly as a smoking area by the last guests and it had a rather forlorn table and chair. But in dark November this part of the suite's facilities was redundant.

This hotel is a product of the boom years, built to good standards, with large public seating areas and an excellent leisure centre and gym. There is also a large shop on site selling some nice gifts including crystal, Newbridge silverware, kitchenware and so on.Parking is good and disabled facilities are evident. This hotel offers some excellent value for money at present and would make for a good base to visit the lakelands of Cavan or further afield to Enniskillen and Monaghan.

The big attraction at Cavan Crystal Hotel however remains the dining experience. The chef is the same person who attracted accolades and good reviews in the very early days of the hotel. We had a very enjoyable dinner in a pleasant environment with very good service. The last time I had dinner here was several months before and it was equally good. However the addition of linen table cloths and different, more formal, waiting staff made a huge difference. This time it was possibly better than any other hotel dining room not just in Cavan and Monaghan but the entire North East. The atmosphere might have been enhanced if there was background relief of some light music but otherwise it was very good. The starters of goats cheese and fois gras were memorable. The steak less so! The wine list offered plenty of choice.

The bar was comfortable and the entertainment was welcome. Overall we enjoyed our brief stay and the hospitality was very good. Now marketed as part of the Maldron marketing group, this hotel is certainly at the top end of that group. Well done to an excellent staff from Reception to dining room. We will return with friends to the dining room over the Christmas period.

We came to stay in this hotel from a GrabOne deal voucher we had bought a few months ago! However we were treated like we had paid the hotel in full! There was a birthday in our party of five people spread across three rooms. A phone call before arrival organised flowers in the room of the birthday girl with brilliant discretion of the receptionist checking us in! The hotel is bright and clean! Staff are all very friendly and couldn't do enough for you! The rooms are big and spacious and very comfortable! We stayed on the 4th floor and the rooms had a nice sloping roof! Opus One is the restaurant on site and if you haven't been you won't be disappointed! The menu is quite concise but the food is exquisite! A variety of ingredients make every dish incredible! This is a fine dining restaurant although the price wouldn't lead you to believe it-great value! The leisure centre is well stocked with a spa upstairs, 18m (I think) pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and a gym! These facilities are so good you can see why it was quite busy with the local community also availing of them! Overall we spent 24 hours in Cavan and never left the hotel! The bar had live music also! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone! I have marked it down on location as it seems to be on the outskirts of Cavan town but that didn't affect our visit!

Just back from another weekend at the Cavan Crystal. Great time as always. Its without a doubt, a great place to stay. Hotel looks fabulous with all the xmas decorations up and no expense has been spared. Its so Festive it would just put you in the mood for xmas. Staff as usual were so friendly and helpful, it would take too long to name them all as they are all fantastic! Food was exceptional. Could not fault anything in this hotel and cannot wait for our next visit. Thanks to all at the hotel.

For the restaurant, stayed here before last March and again this time the hotel is terrific, modern, spotlessly clean and welcoming staff, well done to Ruth on reception for her welcome and attention to detail.

The room was big, well furnished and maintained and the radiator had been switched on, not always the case where hotels are expecting giests to arrive.

The bathroom was ultra clean and had the usual toiletries as well as a full bath with any amount of piping hot water.

Free car parking was plentiful and right up to the door if you can find a space it's that close.

On our last visit we enjoyed a very good meal in the restaurant but whatever led to the changes in there in my opinion it is not for the betterment of the restaurant.

The menu listed 5 items as starters and 5 items as main courses, most of our group went for steak of which there was just one type, a rib eye, the waitress mentioned about the menu being Michelin class food.

That may very well be but to restrict a menu to so few choices and then offer a poor quality cut of steak is poor thinking no matter what class the food is, when the steak arrived it was all but inedible and, something I had never done, I sent it back.

In fairness the waitress did offer an alternative of my choice but as the steak was the only main course that appealed to me originally there was no point in looking for a substitute, again in fairness the waitress offered me a drink from the bar but the food cock up was compounded when we were told there would be no onions or mushrooms with any steaks, not even to buy as a side order, how can you serve steak without the choice of those accompaniments.

Maybe lots of people are impressed with the nouveau cuisine now apparently the new style in the restaurant but from just earlier this year when we had a great meal to what I feel is now pretentiousness is a backward move.

To end on a plus, breakfast was served to your order to your table so full marks for that.

Stayed here last night for a family get together. First impression was wow, nice christmas tree in foyer and seating area. The staff were excellent and very helpful aswell as the service. The leisure area is excellent especially the sauna & steam room which are good hangover cures lol. Rooms were beautiful, spaceious and spotless as was the hotel in general. The food was beautiful but dissappointined with the steak and fact that they did not have pepper sauce did not help, however the breakfast was top notch. I would recommend this hotel to any couple or family as it is ideal for a weekend getaway. I would most deffiently go back.

Spent a lovely overnight here in the Cavan Crystal Hotel, using a voucher that was purchased on the GrabOne site. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Entrance lobby is absolutely charming and very inviting. Checking in and out were super-quick, and staff on duty very pleasant. Our room was lovely and spacious, comfortable and very clean. There was everything to hand that anyone would need for an overnight stay - they even had white towelling robes but we didn't get an opportunity to use them. Had an excellent sleep on a large comfortable and a delicious breakfast the next morning. Lovely to see the likes of pancakes with syrup on the menu, alongside the usual fry ups. Breakfasts are cooked to order, so there’s no fear of your pancakes or sausages lying around in a warming dish. The dining room where breakfast is served was also decorated beautifully with a large Christmas tree, much to delight of the many young children there with their parents. Service in the restaurant was excellent. This is a spotlessly clean hotel, couldn’t fault anything and would stay here again if the opportunity arises. There’s just one thing, town is not 5 minutes away. Perhaps you would make it in 5 minutes if you were in a car or taxi. We took a taxi having been advised by the receptionist that it wasn’t safe to walk, as there isn’t a footpath all the way, and it’s also quite dark in parts. So bear this in mind if you intend staying in the hotel. Taxis are plentiful and cheap so you won’t be stuck, either way.

Attending this hotel for a wedding and spent two nights. The hotel is spotless, staff are so friendly and so helpful. Food is amazing, whether it was at the wedding, restaurant or bar food, it was delicious. Have to say couldn't find one complaint.
