“Lovely food in a beautiful setting overlooking the Ocean”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

This is a special place limited only by the small number of rooms available, althouh I believe there are plans afoot to expand the bedrooms.
Situated on the Strand Line in Kilkee, the Strand overlooks the wild Atlantic Ocean and the Restaurant catches the last rays of the setting sun reflected on the breaking waves.
The Strand is family run, and the owner is the chef, producing lovely seafood. The service is warm and personal.
The rooms all overlook tje beach also and are clean and well laid out.
We go back every year at least once and can heartily recommend it.

Wonderful location right on the water. Six of us were traveling by bicycle, and the host was very gracious to allow us to store the bikes inside for the two nights that we were there. He had great suggestions for places to ride, as well as places to eat.

I had only 24 hours of my otherwise business trip to soak in a little Ireland. A local in my business meeting recommended I head to Kilkee. Best advice I could have gotten!

Just a short beautiful drive from Limerick and I was greeted by the site of Ireland meeting the Atlantic, the incredibly verdant cliffs and the charming little bay that is Kilkee.

I had read reviews of The Strand, so that's what I looked for first. A bit hard to find, I finally negotiated myself properly, parked in front and stepped inside. I was greeted by a friendly woman from the bistro, who it turns out is the owner. She showed me an extremely comfortable room with a bay window overlooking the beach.

The conversations with the couple that owns and manages this Guesthouse and Bistro were worth the price of lodging alone. Turns out the chef-owner had spent time in the Boston area where I now live so we kicked around places and had a grand time.

The seafood in the bistro was fresh and delicious, the seafood meal this Seattle boy has had in 30 years. The breakfast was an excellent treat.

Their advice to take the ferry across the Shannon on my way back to Cork and the airport made the end of my 24 hour mini-vacation as wonderful as the beginning at The Strand.

Extremely reasonably priced, my cost for the night, breakfast and dinner was quite a bit less than the cost for my "business" room at the Cork airport my final night.

My only downside? My wife wasn't with me as this would have been the PERFECT romantic location.

Room Tip: Don't go ANYWHERE ELSE for your dinner. The food is five-star fresh seafood quality

Just back from a wonderful3 day break in Kilkee.Stayed and dined at The Strand Bistro and Accomodation. This is a welcoming and friendly place to stay and also extremely comfortable with rooms overlooking the magnificent seafront. Excellent service and attention from the very efficient staff and a truly great great dining experience and all at very reasonable pricing. Will be back.

Had an absolutely fabulous weekend in the Strand. We absolutely love your guesthouse, the welcome, the food and above all the view. Our young son had a ball, he didn't want to come home.

Room Tip: Sea view is most desirable especially when the sea is not calm.

Stayed on a Sunday night, unfortunately thevrestaurantvwas closed. We were warmly greeted and shown to our room which had the most amazing view. The room was clean and everything in good order, the decor throughout the hotel is excellent and extremely tasteful, the shower had lovely hot water and we had no complaints. Breakfast again with the view was excellent and our host was very friendly and informative. We definitely plan to return, kilkee is a lovely town with some wonderful walks..

Room Tip: No 18 has fab view and window seat which gets the evening sun, but all rooms at the front of the hot...

Sadly only stayed one night and as it was a Sunday, out of season, the restaurant was closed.
Pleasantly surprised that Johnny took the initiative to ring ahead and confirm our arrival time. He gave us a warm welcome and checked that we were happy with the room and had all we required before leaving us to relax after a long journey. The room was spacious, clean, very comfortable and the view with the sound of the waves lapping on the shore soon got us in a holiday mood. After the best night's sleep and a great shower, we sampled Johnny's excellent breakfast, the best we had anywhere throughout our trip. He was friendly, attentive without being obtrusive and happy to chat to us. We are only sorry that we didn't sample the seafood and some of the Bistro atmosphere. As we told him at the time, we would love to return.

Room Tip: The sea-view rooms at the front are a must!
