“Newmarket Travel holiday”
Reviewed June 15, 2007

Travelled with Newmarket Travel from EMA.June 10th 2007, from ad spotted in the Mail on Sunday.
The flight times were changed after booking to a late arrival Ryanair, didn't get to hotel till midnight and we had to be on an excursion at 9am the following day - no reduction in price for missing half a day which is according to terms and conditions but against the spirit of a holiday.
No one at airport to meet us and all the other arriving guests.
Hung around for about half an hour in the arrivals hall before a bus eventually turned up to transport us to hotel.
No one at hotel from Newmarket Travel to greet us, no welcome drink etc, had to drag your own cases upstairs, no lifts.
Great start to the holiday.
The traditional Irish welcome was conspicuous by its absence, most staff were foreign.
The traditional Irish breakfast was a let down too, identical every day, hot was scrambled egg, bacon, tomato, sausage etc self served from a hostess trolley. Limited choice overall and they failed to cope adequately with the number of guests eating at the same time.No entertainment in the evening but plenty of other guests to talk to over a pint of Guiness. Evening restaurant was quite good, a decent meal here, bar meals were average.
Room we had was spacious and had great views of the Shannon river, the hotel was in a brilliant location.
Leisure facs excellent, good size pool.
The excursions were ok, lot of travelling on the bus, but good guides and drivers.
Having said all this negative stuff we enjoyed it overall, nice rural setting, some good food and a reasonable selection of excellent Irish pubs/restaurants to go at.
Lovely part of the world this is, despite the negatives we really enjoyed it but disappointed in the indifference of Newmarket Travel, one to avoid in future

Stayed at Lakeside Hotel, Killaloe 20-25 May 07. Travelling with Newmarket Travel. After reading some of the reviews on Trip Advisor I was pleasently surprised, the Hotel was in a lovely setting , the staff friendly and helpful. Our twin room that i booked for myself and Mother was huge 4 beds, the bathroom looked a bit tired but was ok. Breakfasts were serve yourself everything from yoghurts and cereals to full english, there was baskets of fresh fruit and it did look fresh, perhaps the hotel had seen its reviews on Trip-Advisor and taken note. We found the food was very good. Not a lot to do in Killaloe, so if you go there with New -market book their excursions, you'll see a lot of lovely countryside and be well entertained by the tour guides, we went out with Bernie and she was great. If you go to Ireland go prepared for rain, because it does, but when the sun comes out its beautiful.

Our eldest daughter held her wedding reception at Lakeside. All our family flew over to ireland from nottinghamshire and many stayed at the hotel. The facilities were excellent. our rooms were all scattered in different areas and we had no complaints at all. The family rooms are huge. The swimming pool was very well run and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The attention to detail was second to none on the day of the wedding they could not do enough for us. We were very nervous in the beginning when our daughter said she would like to get married in ireland (her husbands family live in limerick and surrounding areas) We needn't have worried everything went lovely amd we will never forget our time spent at the Lakeside Hotel and Killaloe.

I stayed four nights at the hotel as part of a wedding party and I have to say I could not find fault with it. The room's view was superb, and the housekeeping good. The staff were polite and helpful. The room doors do make quite a noise when being shut because of the double lock system but to me this was not a problem. Great late bar, decent breakfasts and a nice locale. A short stroll into the village leads you to some really nice pubs and shops. The only problem is that it's quite a way from the airport but if there's a few of you, the taxi fare is reasonable. Some of us are planning to return this year.

Great Location overlooking the River Shannon with lovely views. The hotel was pleasant, the rooms quite small but clean & adequate. They can be a bit noisy. We were above the bar and could hear the voices below us and the doors did slam a bit. Breakfast was a mix of hot and cold buffet which was ok if you like cereal or a cooked breakfast but not very much fruit. Bar snacks were available all afternoon and there was a carvery which we did not try. The best thing was that the hotel was within walking distance of the small town of Ballina where we found an excellent bar and restuarant called Goosers and a few other bars which were quite lively in the evening. A lot of the other B & B's around were in the middle of nowhere.

I have recently returned from a trip to Ireland and was booked in here for the first three and the last night of my trip. There is no getting away from it that the location of the Lakeside overlooking the River Shannon is maginicent with lovely views along the river to the bridge connecting Kilaloe with the neighbouring town of Ballina.

The accomodation which is on the first folor of the hotel is reached by stairs. There does not appear to be any public lift from the ground floor which makes carrying your heavy bags to the room difficult.

The rooms themselves are small by most standards and the standard of Housekeeping left alot to be desired. The room had not been properely cleaned from the previous occuipiers. The rooms in the front of the Hotel and around the top of the stairs are very noisy. This is not helped one bit by the terrible card entry key system which requies the doors to be slammed shut to ensure they are locked from both the inside and oustide of the room. This made geetting an uninterrupted nights sleep impossible. The breakfast buffet was a mix of the normal hot and cold platter you would expect. I have to ask how often they refresh fruit bowl on the cold table: the same friut was there at the begining and on our return at the end of the week.

Would i stay there again? There are plenty of good comfortable bed and breakfasts in the area which i would try

We stayed at the hotel for a wedding in August and I must say that the staff at the hotel were more than helpful and very friendly. The location is beautiful, the hotel itself was very nice and the food was great. The room we stayed in had a great view and was very clean. We will definatley be returning!
