Attended wedding reception at hotel in late Dec. Hotel is in great location beside Lough Derg and less than half hour from Limerick City. All staff were mannerly and polite. Food was fab and plentiful - we were stuffed . Main hotel is modern, clean and spacious. Bedrooms are basic and clean. Breakfast next morning was buffet style with lots of options of hot food, different fruits and cereals etc.. It was a great choice for wedding venue.

I stayed in the Lakeside Hotel Killaloe in County Clare for 2 nights. I had a wonderfull stay . I found the staff extremely welcoming and friendly at all times. The food was brillant. We dinned in resturant one day, and had bar food the following evening.
I found the rooms very comfortable, and the views were great. I would definately recommend this hotel

We were a bit nervous about staying here, having read the reviews on Tripadvisor already! We did pay the extra and upgraded to a room with a view of the Loch and I believe that this was worth every penny. The double room was spacious and clean with fantastic views of the loch and mountains. Yes, the room was a bit dated and could have done with a new carpet (it was quite worn), but it was spotless and the bed was so comfortable, we had a fantastic nights sleep.
The staff went out of their way to help us, nothing was too much trouble.
The breakfast was out of this world, we both commented that it was one of the best we had ever had.
We would use this hotel again with no worries, but we would pay for a sea view room, it was the best 20 euros we spent and we would thoroughly recommend the Lakeside.

The staff were ok ,however there were not many of them.mainly young girls without any obvious supervision. We were put into a room over the kitchen,a twin ,we booked a double. It was small ,basic and shabby,The TV remote did not work. Two bulbs gone in overhead light. No plug in wash basin, bathroom grubby and the whole room smelled of food plus an extractor fan that worked all night. After a complaint next day we were moved to another room, the only difference bieng there was no fan,but now we overlooked the overflowing dustbins!! The location was beautiful and the food very good especially breakfast.howevwer we were glad to leave infact the room spoiled our holiday.

We have stayed here a few time with our 2 kids under 3 and would really recommend it.Large family room plenty of room for all our gear.Evening meal was good value and they made up a "baby bowl" for 6 month old.
The pool is huge goes from very shallow to v. deep with a water slide.
We will be staying there again next month.perfect to stay in to break up long drive from dublin to kerry!

After reading the book Falling Angels by John Walsh, who said "it would be hard to find a prettier town than Killaloe" my husband and I decided to pay a visit on our touring holiday. Killaloe is indeed very pretty, a village on a hill sloping down to the beautiful arched bridge which takes you across to Balina. From Killaloe one can see the Lakesdie Hotel which looks very smart from the outside, commanding a stunning view of the river and bridge. The gardens look immaculate and the outside of the hotel has great "kerb appeal". We had no booking but decided to stay for two nights, which the hotel were able to accommodate us with. The Receptionist was pleasant, but rushed off her feet answering the switchboard, taking long messages for absent or "in meeting" members of staff, not her fault, but not very welcoming. Despite the rain and their not being full, no special rates were on offer and we paid 110 Euros per night bed and breakfast, which is very steep as The Old Ground in Ennis (very highly recommended) is the same price and in comparison to the Lakeside would be a 20 Star Hotel!

The Reception area smelt the day we checked in of burnt cabbage or something noxious. Not boding well at all. We go up to our room along the hardboard floored corridor, covered with the thinnest of carpet making alot of unintentional noise. The corridor had a "quickly knocked up extention" feel to it. To our room. The spectacular twin that is room 122. On opening the door, we could just about squeeze in past the bed with our luggage. The carpet was slightly sticky and the room had an uncared and unloved feeling. Not especially dirty, but slightly sticky. The chest of drawers had a massive chip out of it, one wonders how that happened. The TV required binoculars to view it, and was set rigid in the most awkward of spots.

Then the delight of the bathroom. Tiles with pictures of birds on which had been PAINTED OVER with ONE coat of paint and were still visible. The decorator and his roller swept down over the tiles, and onto the floor, leaving a white border of paint around the floor edge. The "fashionable" sandstone coloured floor tiles (which had been added to update the 50's look !?) had loose tiles in the middle of the floor which one could have picked up and taken down to reception, had one a mind to.

Breakfast next day was adequate, made unbearable by the super-stressed staff and the amount of children unwilling to eat any breakfast which they showed by crying and yelling at full volume.

Needless to say, we made a sharp exit and did not stay the second night.

Stayed here for one night. Horrible rainy night but the views would have been lovely otherwise. The girl is reception was lovely and booked us in no bother. Had dinner and have to say the irish girl working in the restaurant was terrible. Had to ask for them to take our order, napkins, water, bread, butter and lots more. Enjoyed the food itself though just not the service. Residence bar open late and bar staff nice. Rooms are extremely outdated (the phones are so funny) but they did the job. Would stay again if i was passing through but would not go out of my way to stay here. If you have a family with kids or teenagers there is a nice adventure/water centre out the road and a good pool in the hotel. I'm not a swimmer but the slide in the hotel pool is supposed to be great. Breakfast in bed was yum.
