“Lovely Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2009

I brought my mother to this Hotel because I wanted her to have the lovely countryside views yet be close enough for shopping for myself & luckily it was the right choice. We enjoyed a hearty traditional irish breakfast each morning, dinner had great choices but what we enjoyed the most was afternoon tea in the conservatory. We were very lucky that the sun shone for us. Glenveagh National park is a real find & we enjoyed it very much. It was a great little Hotel for a relaxing break.

My son's wedding was in this hotel at the end of April and the extended family went up for three days. From the minute we arrived we were at home and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Our room was large ,spotless and so comfortable. On our first night there we had dinner in the bar and the food was really good and served by a young man who could not have been nicer or more attentive. We intended going into Letterkenny on the second night for dinner , but the food and service on the first night was so good that we had dinner in the bar on the second night also and once again it was first class.
The wedding reception ,was all that we had hoped for and made the day so wonderful for all of us,went without a hitch from start to finish , terrific staff , fantastic food and the new function room could not have been nicer.
All in all this is a really lovely hotel with all the comforts of home.
Value for money obviously rates very highly with Management and we will certainly go back during the Summer.

The Silver Tassie claims & thinks to be more than it is. It has a brand new function room and the accommodation rates reflect that price. The bedrooms look like they haven't been updated since 1981!! Along with the shabby rooms the service of the staff was just ok apart from when I complained about my meal in the restaurant, the manager’s attitude was appalling and told me that I had to pay for my meal either way.. I wasn’t looking for a “free” meal, I frankly disliked it and wanted to change it for something else. We were really disgusted with his attitude!! The rest of our meals i.e. breakfast was average (we had dinner on the 2nd night in a restaurant called Beetroot in Letterkenny, it was TOP CLASS)
If you’re looking for a hotel in Letterkenny centre this hotel is certainly NOT in the centre or within walking distance, you definitely need to have a car to stay in this hotel. A taxi costs us about €17 each time to go in & out to Letterkenny, with plenty of hotels based around the town centre we were disappointed that we didn't pick one of these, with all the time we spent in the town.
It felt more like a 2star and defiantly not worth the 300Euros we paid for the weekend. Pretty disappointing overall. Loved Letterkenny but will definitely be staying more central on our next visit.

The location of the hotel is excellent. The area surrounding the hotel- County Donegal -is magnificent. The coast line is one of the best we have ever seen and were amazed that we had lived in England in ignorance of the beauty the area has to offer. The hotel is in mid renovation although this was not on their web page. That being so the building works caused no disruption to our stay and we heard nothing from the workmen. The hotel has a conservatory which is attached to the bar and restaurant. We found this relaxing although full of younsters at the start of the evening- the hotel clearly encourages local families to eat at the hotel which one can understand.
Our main gripe was that our family room was above the restaurant and adjacent to an area where people step outside for a smoke. We had noise from outside from 10.00pm-3.00am-non stop as drinkers enjoyed a "fag" a few feet from our room on the first floor. Neither my wife or I slept.
When the smokers went the next problem was staff downstairs moving the chairs- no doubt in preparation for breakfast. Aagghh!
The next night no smokers but still the noise of chairs dragging across the wooden floor.
The staff were pleasant and of assistance without being intrusive.
The hotel bedroom was clean without particularly being eye catching. The carpets were already showing signs of wear.
Breakfasts promised a great deal but turned out to be pre prepared and left in heated dishes-dry and overcooked. The second morning we had poached eggs on toast- freshly cooked and excellent.
Would we return? Not unless we could be assured of a little tranquillity at night.

The hotel is magnificent and I have never experienced such incredible service before. The staff was quite helpful and went out of their way to make your stay the most enjoyable in all respects, from the front desk to housekeeping. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag myself away from the hotel. I was just expecting a few nibbles for breakfast, but it was a lovely and far more than expected experience. The restaraunt and pub were elegant and inviting as well. Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in on holiday in Ireland and I am extremely picky and have stayed in quite a few! I would recommend this hotel energetically to anyone.

Just back from a week-end break @ the Silver Tassie. The hotel was very clean, towels etc. changed daily. The breakfast was so fresh & our evening meal(silver tassie steak)was mouth watering. The atmosphere was so relaxing & after our evening meal we sat in the foyer and watched the world go by.The staff were so accommodating and as we were looking for a chill out break we certainly achieved this at the Tassie. We would have no hesitation recommending this hotel to our friends.*****

My only complaint is that my wife and I were only there for two days for a wedding and wish it had been a much longer stay. From our arrival the staff were pleasant and helpful. The quality of the accomodation was very high and the room comfortable and airy. We had a meal after our arrival which was beautiful. I had expected there to be only snacks available given the lateness of the hour. (It was after 9.00pm.) We were surprised to learn that they served until 10.30.
I never expect much in the way of the quality of the food at wedding receptions but the Tassie excelled itself. It was a buffet and although there were only two choices they were both very good and served in jig time!
A great place to stay and we hope to be back for Christmas.
