Newmills Corn and Flax Mill
Ranked #5 of 31 things to do in Letterkenny
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 16, 2013

The mill was interesting, but the machinery is not usually on. Small and out of the way, but very pleasant and informative. It appears that "corn" is really any kind of grain, not field corn as we anticipated prior to our visit. The wordier displays won't hold young children's attention, but the mills themselves, water way, etc. are more appealing. Definitely worth a visit if near your route, but I can't suggest that you go far afield to visit here.

We visited this place today and I must say this is a MUST see unique place and unbelievably its free. We had a guide David, who was very knowledgeable and made our visit a most pleasant one. I dont think its wheelchair friendly but I could be corrected. Our guide operated the wheel for us. I will bring more people back here.

We visited during heritage week, which unfortunately is the only time the wheel operates. But even without this, it would have been worth a visit. The displays are informative and it's really interesting to see about the mills.

David is an excellent guide and was very good with younger members of our party. He made the visit very interesting and the best part it's free.

Myself and my family visited this place recently and we really enjoyed it. A very nice man welcomed us in, gave us an introductory of the place and then played us a short video upstairs about the history of the mill. When that video was complete he then went on to explain more about the corn mill and about the flax mill. We had a look around the mills and there was loads of information written on large boards. There were also more items on display in the museum building itself and more information boards. The tour guide then answered any questions any of us had about the mills. Its a really interesting place and i will definitely be recommending it to my friends and family.
