“Good Hotel & Helpful staff”
Reviewed July 25, 2008

I have stayed at the Mount Errigal Hotel for a family break and the I have to say the it is a lovely hotel. Staff couldn't do enough to help. The receptionist on duty was very welcoming.

we had a meal in the restaurant in one of the nights and it was gorgeous, full of taste.

I do recommend this hotel to other people thinking about visiting Letterkenny.

Got to the hotel after a long drive.low and behold there is a wedding on.Could not get parking in the car park.when we eventually got into the reception the wedding guests were everywhere as the hotel holds the welcome in the main reception area. we had to battle our way with two bags and a child to the reception desk.

room wasnt very nice. tiny double beds. not enough pillows. bathroom had other peoples hair in the bath! no plug at the dressing table, had to sit in the middle of the room to use my GHD.TV in a crazy position.

went out to eat. came back and had a couple of drinks in the bar.

tried to go to sleep but noise till 3am in the corridor.

Next day-breakfast was fine. not a huge selection but ok.
Leisure center was nice. good size pool but a but dark.

had a meal in the strawberry tree that night.this was fabulous.
really really good.

Unfortuantly there was another wedding and this was even worse. wedding guests didnt stay in the function room and the bar was packed with wedding guests late into the night.

was woken up at 3am by noisy wedding guests hammering on doors and shouting in the corridors. this went on till 6.30 am.
was dozing off over breakfast and couldnt wait to leave.

Like a previous reviewer said i wouldnt go back. even if room was free.

  • Liked — the food in the strawberry tree
  • Disliked — badly organised weddings. i should know im a wedding planner!

I would never stay here again - even if I got a room for free. First impressions are ok. The reception, bar etc seem reasonable for the price of the hotel. Once you pass the pleasant public area and retreat to the rooms your in for a surprise. The bedrooms are straight out of 70s decade - Dark, small, no air-conditioning, sat tv not working properly, ceilings water stained. First impressions were basic. After some time in the room it became apparant house-keeping was not up to scratch - old tablet packs found in drawers, papers left from other guests in drawers and rubbish around bed. The next morning ran a bath for myself and OMG brown (with bits)!!! The toilet water and wash basin the same! Bear in mind coffee making facilities were left in the room so needless to say that was the water we were drinking. (I was staying with my mother and my 2 children - we all drank this water) YUK!
When I complained to the duty manager he accepted there was a problem and offered me a credit note. I explained that a credit note was of no value to me as I would never stay in the this hotel again and on top of that I would never recommend my friends to stay (even if the room was free). I declined the credit note as I'd never spend it and the matter remains unsolved. I had no intention of spending more money in this hotel. I showed 2 people who were just about to book in the photos and they were delighted! They chose to pop up the road and book into one of the other hotels. This hotel is far below standards - NOT SUPERIOR as their marketing literature would have you believe. Ask yourself why do they not show you pics of the rooms? Don't be fooled by the pool either - nothing special and cold!

We stayed in the Mount Errigal Hotel for one night in April this year attending a conference and we will never repeat the experience. We wrote to the manager detailing our complaints and it was only following the intervention of Failte Ireland that we received a reply over 2 months later.

• None of the lights in the room functioned unless the bathroom light and fan were switched on.

• We made a reservation for a double room - today’s world a 4 foot bed is not a comfortable double bed.

• The shower head was leaking badly – a jet of water went upwards out of one of the joints in the nozzle.

• The taps unit in the sink was loose and moves from side to side when the tap is turned on.

• The towel rack was loose on the wall and there were no rails to hang towels on while in use.

• There were hooks missing from the curtains and the rail was mounted on an unpainted strip of timber.

• The aspect of the room on to the leisure centre was quite unsatisfactory. The area below was dirty, untidy and noisy from what we presumed was the kitchen air-conditioning.

The ambience of the breakfast venue was very unwelcoming and well below the standard one would expect for the rates being paid. We also felt that the presentation of the buffet breakfast was very, very poor. The cereal dispensers were useless and spilled their contents onto the table and floor. The hot food was dumped on to the plates with no attempt at attractive presentation.

There is no point in a hotel being awarded 3 stars for its facilities if the service and maintenance are not kept up to the same standard.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel recently and were so very impressed from the moment we arrived till we left we were treated like long lost relatives. The food, leisure facilities and rooms were excellent. All the staff including receptionists were very friendly particularly a young man who couldn't do enough. Well worth the visit

  • Liked — Rooms were spacious, clean
  • Disliked — Room was slightly hot but when i asked reception got it sorted immediately

We stayed at this hotel while we were working in Letterkenny for two days. The booking was made for us. However, we checked with the hotel in advance to make sure that we would have a quiet, non-smoking, double, executive room as requested. No problem they said! Sadly, our experience was similar to a previous reviewer. The room turned out to be a twin, smoking room. In no respect was it an executive room. The hotel was full so we decided to make the best of it. When we returned to our room after dinner we could hear the sound of a band playing immediately under our room. When we enquired about when the music would stop we were told they didn't know! So the music went on and on. . . . Sure the staff were friendly but powerless to influence what was happening.

if you do decide to stay in this hotel, double check in advance that they have the correct booking, and if there is a party on, go elsewhere!

  • Liked — Leaving it!
  • Disliked — The noise and the inability to respond to our requests

I went to the Mount Errigal Hotel for a weekend break with two of my friends last January and we really had a fantastic time.

The lobby and the hotel reception were very nice and the front desk staff was friendly and courteous at all the times.

Our room was lovely and very big for the 3 of us. The food in the bar was very nice, we actually eat there the two nights, the menu had many mouth watering choices.

But what we really enjoyed was the leisure centre, it was very relaxing.

I definetly would recommend this hotel to people visiting Letterkenny, it is very handy and has superb facilities.
