I was surprised that I enjoyed Derek hill's house so much. I didn't know much about the man and am not a fan of his art but he certainly was an interesting character. Don't bypass this attraction.

Here is another little gem to visit in Donegal. Wheather you are interested in art or not you will love Glebe Gallery - and also if the house is open you will be taken back in time. Lovely tea rooms also.

Visited Globe gallery and gardens April 1st had a fascinating time in the gallery looking at the paintings and exhibits showing some amazing talent. Visited the tearooms which had really tasty food interestingly supplied by glenveagh but luckily for us not the queues. Unfortunately the house of renowned painter Derek Hill was closed due to works to enable disabled access. This is so worth a visit for anyone who has never been fascinating to do the tour so much so that this had been our plan we will just have to return another time.

We cannot recommend Glebe House highly enough. The house itself in terms of architecture and light is a joy to be in, every room and hallway full of Derek Hill’s wonderful art collection (ranging from Derek Hill himself to Picasso, Renoir and Tory Island primitive painters), photographs, furniture and other possessions (including some interesting clothing).

Noeleen, our guide, has a clear passion for her work with exceptional knowledge of the art, Derek Hill and his friends and visitors and the local area. Many of the tales we surely would never have discovered if we had not visited the house.

With the surrounding gardens and lakeside walks it proved to be both one of the most interesting and most peaceful locations we visited on our trip to Donegal. We will certainly be making a return visit.

Every time I have visitors I bring them to see this fascinating house. It is packed full of art works, there's a Picasso plate in the kitchen as well as examples of Tory primitive painters. Even if you have no interest in the former owner, artist Derek Hill, it's worth a visit to hear the interesting stories about former visitors to the house who include Greta Garbo and to see the lovely decor. The exhibitions in the gallery change so check what's on there. The cafe is good for a coffee and slice of cake but not for a substantial meal.
