Description: At Monks we have a special love for the sea and you can taste it in every delicious mouthful of our authentic, traditional food – lovingly prepared with only the freshest and finest, locally-produced ingredients. And it’s all paired with the picture-postcard prettiness, harbour charm and welcoming country comfort that is the beautiful old fishing port of Ballyvaughan – pearl of the Burren.

if you are driving the burren coast road then chances are you will pass by monks in ballyvaughan. it can be quite busy with tourists at times but their service is quite efficient. I usually will stop there. the food is what you would class good, solid, hearty pub grub. you cant really go wrong with it. the chowder is tasty and will warm your belly if you have been out and about in the burren. and a decent pint of Guinness is to be had there too!

Busy little place but the food was so wonderful we can understand why. The staff were so helpful and helped us with travel suggestions. A gem of a place.

Have visited here a number of times and the chowder is worth the visit - however a place to avoid if you see a coach outside as they don't seem to be able to cope with large numbers. The Guinness is very good too.

We stopped here for a quick lunch after touring the Burren! Cold day, warm fire and amazing seafood stew! Large, yummy chunks of fish. Super yummy!

Sought out this place based on recommendation from a family member. Admittedly said family member was there 10 years ago but still raves about the place.
Fish and chips were average. I've had better and cheaper in dingier pubs. Chips were most likely frozen - certainly not fresh.
Seafood platter - smoked salmon was ok. Crab was almost inedible and gave after one claw. White flesh was very wet and tasteless. Mussels looked old.
Will not be back and will advise anyone heading to Ballyvaughan to give it a miss. There are plenty of other places far more deserving of your hard earned cash.
