“A pleasant low key hotel”
Reviewed September 16, 2008

A really pleasant hotel. Ideal for a romantic weekend. But go for a walk for exercise... no gym or pool!

Really nice food (chowder and 8oz steak at dinner was excellent)
Room was spotless.Staff really pleasant and flexible. We arrived late after kitchen was alcosed and the bar girl got us chips!
only criticism was that the background music in the dining room could change a little... a bit of classical music interspersed with the traditional would not go astray. Otherwise the hotel and staff was and were lovely.

  • Liked — Staff and beautiful location at the edge of teh burren and by the sea.. lovely walks
  • Disliked — music was a little repetitive in the dining area.. esp when one heard it at breakfast and evening!

We recently took a short break at this hotel. We found it very family friendy. The barfood menu was extensive and the breakfast was of very high quality.

The staff were helpful and the service we received throughout the hotel was very good. I have to congratulate them on the standard of cleanliness in the public areas of the hotel, someone is doing their job very well.

We look forward to returning again soon.

I stayed in Hylands for one night as part of a trip around Co Clare. Our room was large and bright with a large bathroom, both spotlessly clean. My only complaint was that our bed was old and uncomfortable. The staff were all extremely friendly and very efficient. Breakfast choices were pretty limited but more than adequate.

My lasting impression was that it was what I expected from a 3 star hotel, no better or worse, although slightly overpriced for the location.

  • Liked — Good location and great staff
  • Disliked — Uncomfortable bed

My husband and I stayed in this hotel last weekend and we had a fantastic time. The staff were excellent and so helpful, they are a hugh assett to this hotel. The food was excellent and we ate here both nights of our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel. We will definatly be back.

We had originally reserved a room at the Burren Walking Lodge. When we called just prior to arriving there, we were told to come to the Hylands Burren Hotel instead. When we got there, we were told that, since we'd be the only guests at the Walking Lodge, they were going to "upgrade" us to a room in the Hyland Burren Hotel for no extra charge, so that we wouldn't be alone.

Our room was very small and somewhat dingy, there was no toilet paper, no toilet paper holder, very poor quality TV, the toilet had a drip in the tank all night long, the meal was only mediocre (the salad was excellent, however).

This definitely felt like a bait-and-switch, because the pictures of the Walking Lodge showed very nice rooms - and what we got was a far cry from that. Truly the worst place we stayed at during our 2 1/2 weeks in Ireland.
