We stopped here on a typical rainy day during a drive through the Burren. They have demonstrations with the trained birds and youngsters and adults get a chance to hold and feed hawks, falcons and owls. This is a rescue center with birds from all over the world. Plan on a couple of hours here after you vist the nearby Ailwee Cave. Walk across the car park to the Craft Village and sample some excellent locally made cheese!

I was not sure if I would like this attraction, however my clients wanted to stop here.Within a very shot time I was converted. The Birds of Prey are very well looked after by people who know what they are doing and only have the interest of the birds at heart.
During the day they put on a show where the birds fly, this is not to be missed, remember to ask for show times, you should also visit the Allwee Cave in the same area, the Tour is well worth visiting and the Guides are great.

Excellent talk by resident expert and demonstration of peregrine falcon in flight. We were rather late and would have liked to spend a bit more time there.

The website for the Burren Birds of Prey Centre said the Hawk Walk was a once in a lifetime experience... and it was right! My wife and I arrived at 10:00 am and were immediately greeted by James, who introduced us to the Harris hawks, Calvin and Al. He gave us a quick but informative lesson on the hawks, including why that type is used, how they behave, and how to carry them. We then proceeded to the wooded path where we were shown how to send the hawks away and call them back. As we climbed the path up the mountainside, we were told various facts about the hawks, birds of prey in general, local animals and plants, and the scenery and landscape, and enjoyed the conversation in general. It was very thrilling to watch these magnificent creatures fly away through the trees then return to land on our arm! We have never experienced anything like it!

While 70 euro might seem pricey, keep in mind this also includes the Birds of Prey Flight display, which is very educational and entertaining, and admission to Aillwee Cave. This makes it a great value. This should be on anyone's itinerary who might be in this area!
