“It suited our needs perfectly!”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

We've just returned from a 3-night stay at the Oranmore Lodge Hotel. Our purpose was to be close to my partner's workplace, and somewhere I could work/be during the day.The room was spacious and well equipped, but very hot at night! It is something to come home to warmth on a cold night, but it is another things to be so warm that you can't sleep. A tiny window could only open an inch, and as a result we struggled with the stuffiness in the air. During the day the temperature was perfect. We found the decor a little dated - certainly did not come across as 4-star accommodation. Access to the gym was handy and the internet worked well. All in all it was our haven for these few days in Galway.

Dear IrishAfricanmeisie,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the hotel.

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and that it was close to your partner's workplace.

With regards to the heat, our apologies it was too warm, for health and safety reasons our windows can only open a certain amount to stop anyone falling from them - but its probably better to be too warm rather than too cold!

Great to know the Free WIFI worked well for you.

Again, thank you and we look forward to welcoming you back to stay with us.

Regards,

We recently stayed here for 3 nights over the midterm break. Me, my partner and 3 kids shared a room with 2 double beds.

Lovely large room which just had new carpet as you could just get the whiff of new carpet – but that did not deter us.
Great spacious room with TV, Tea and coffee facilities and a microwave – although we only had 2 double beds we were short a bed for my little one but she popped in the bed with the others so we did not mind – we knew this before we booked it.

We were booked in on a 3 night bed and breakfast family rate which was great value and ended up eating in the bar every evening as the food was fantastic, not overpriced and service was just great – only fault is there was too much on the plate!

The hotel was lovely and warm with great character being an old hotel and very friendly – every member of staff was super friendly in all areas, so well done to them – girls at reception were extremely busy but at all times were chatty and very helpful – even with heating special food I had to have for one of my kids!

We used the pool every day and the kids loved it and took part in the Halloween games that was put on for them on one of the days.

This was our first time to stay in this hotel but we will most certainly be returning as we got great value for money, fantastic food and overall a wonderful atmosphere!

Just returned from our 2nd stay in this great hotel.

We decided to return to the Oranmore Lodge Hotel as it is a wonderful charming hotel with such a friendly , homely atmosphere. We booked in on a package which included dinner on one night in the restaurant which was devine! Although restaurant is small I still love it and food is amazing. Our package included a full dinner menu which by the time I was finished my main I really had no space for dessert but forced myself!

There was great music in the bar so we didn't have to leave the hotel at all. My husband booked me in for a hot stone massage with Aria in the leisure centre which was to die for - the best one I have ever had, it was such a treat. They seem to have recently refurbished the leisure centre which my husband had great praise for and it seemed to have been very busy.

The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the quaint village of Oranmore so handy if you fancy a stroll or an afternoon movie in the cinema which we just realised was only 5 minutes from the hotel.

This time round we stayed in one of the older more traditional rooms with great high ceilings - just what you expect in this old hotel but really lovely - it had a nice leather sofa in it to sit back and watch some tv.

Breakfast was lovely although very busy - I recommend coming down early as everyone seems to gather at 09:30!

We dined in the bar on the 2nd night and had the chefs homemade burger - its delicious.

Overall yet again we really enjoyed this hotel, its a wonderful little treasure to have found and makes such a change to have friendly chatty staff that you can have a good bit of craic with. I highly recommend it.

This hotel needs a facelift. Reception has a cold atmosphere but has nice open fire. Not great location if your are holidaying in galway city €15-20 in taxi. The bar and breakfast room are unenticing. The dining room is more regal and the evening food was surprisingly good. The bedroom was dated also but clean. Leisure centre is old and not well maintened, changing rooms smelled and were in need of repair/updating. Service for breakfast was a farce, queue's of people at reception waiting to be seated from 9:15 staff very unorganised at breakfast and quality of breakfast was inferior to other hotels for the same price.

Bedrooms very small for a family of five , 2 double beds and no extra beds provided. Bathroom wasn't clean and we were given 2 bath towels. Breakfast was a joke, didn't cater for anymore than 4 at a table which meant we were blocking people constantly . Very poorly staffed, certainly wouldn't come back, couldn't wait to get home!

My family and I stayed at this hotel last weekend. We decided on the spur of the moment to spend a night away with our 2 kids and my husband rang the hotel to make the booking. We were quoted a price based on 2 adults and 2 children and booked a family room. After a two hour drive in the rain, we arrived at the hotel only to be told that the booking was for 2 adults and one child and the only room they had left had one double bed and one single. The hotel had clearly messed up, but what angered me most was the reaction of the receptionist. It was clearly their mistake but she had no intention of helping us. I practically had to beg her to find a mattress somewhere to put into the room. She clearly didn't want to be bothered. When we got to our room I was wishing we had turned around and driven two hours back home. The room was tiny and extremely old fashioned. It was like something out of a time warp. At no time were we offered an apology over the mix up or even a discount on the room rate. The least they could've done was offered us a complimentary drink at the bar.

The only positive thing I could say is that the bar food was quite good and the live music in the bar was very good. The barman who served us was very pleasant and helpful. Perhaps the unhelpful girl in reception could learn something from him.

Will definately never return to this hotel and will tell everyone I know not to stay here either!
