“Charming, Comfortable, Cosy”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

We spent a night at The Maldron on the start of our drive around Ireland. We were very impressed by the building itself band once inside our impressions did not alter. The staff were excellent, very polite and informative. Our room was spacious and I took good advantage of the window seat and sunshine. We had dinner and breakfast at the Hotel and they were both excellent, service was prompt and food was delicious. Off street parking was a bonus.

Room Tip: Although a little out of the main town, there are shops not too far away to buy food or essentials...

The hotel was impeccably clean, the staff were very friendly, the food was gorgeous and quite reasonably priced. As a young couple we probably would have been more suited in the city centre but saying that we had a lovely taxi driver and the town of oranmore was only a short walk away (our favourite place in all of Galway is the Thatch pub in the town, much better than all the pubs in the city!) Although we won't be staying in the near future, my brother is going to make a reservation with his family on the head of our advice! also, I'd like to apologise again for the lady on the breakfast shift for giving her 19€ in change.. I don't know where I found that fella!

The Maldron hotel at Oranmore never fails to be consistent, and I use it several times a year on business. The rooms are spacious and spotless and the food is similar to home cooking. It is excellent place to eat cheaply and well even if you aren't stopping. Drop in to the restaurant for carvery lunch or the bar in the evening for roast of the day.

Rather dimly lit hallways kinda reminded me of the Shining. Food is not good at the pub, beers are cold though. Rooms are ok. Staff was nice. Plenty of room. They have a pool didnt use it but its there.

I went on a family break over the june bank holiday weekend to this hotel. I found the price very reasonable compared to other hotels in Galway. As I have a young family a swimming pool and a spaceous room is important. The swimming pool is good with 2 kids poils which kept my kids entertained. The room has very nice and a nice size we didn't feel cramped and it wasn't stuffy which seems to be an issue in many hotel rooms. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant. The food was fine nothing great but not bad. The one issue we had was the service in the restaurant wasnt great. We were waiting for some time and had to ask for our order to be taken. It wasnt busy and the service staff were just chat5ing to rach other most of the time but after we spoke to ine of the staff they were quite prompt from then on. Overall thus is a v3ry nice hotel and excellant value for money. A car is required if you want to travel to the city as its 10 min drive from galway.

First the good things; the rooms are quite large, well decorated and although they have no air conditioning, have office- sized electric fans which can be plugged in if required. The staff are friendly, and there is a decent swimming pool and relaxation centre. The restaurant food is adequate without being anything special.
Not so good; the location is definitely not ideal for Galway. It is several miles outside the city, on a very busy traffic island, and on the edge of an unattractive industrial/ commercial area. There is a cinema next door (advantage or disadvantage? Take your pick). Crossing the road is dangerous and that is the only way to get to the bus stop for the Galway direction. The staff recommend getting a taxi, so that tells you something.
This is a decent hotel for an overnight business stay or possibly a weekend with the kids, but it is not somewhere where one would want to spend much time.

Room Tip: Rooms either face the busy road system, the huge cinema or unattractive industrial/ commercial unit...

Dear djbamb,
Thank you for completing a review following your recent stay with us. I hope you enjoyed your trip around Ireland. It is encouraging for us to read your positive comments in relation to rooms, staff and service.
As you point out correctly we are not a city centre location, however we are just a 10 minute drive away at a cost of €13 in a taxi. There is a good bus service from Oranmore to Galway, however if a couple of people are travelling together the taxi is probably good value. I hope you found the hotel without any problem just off the M6. and had an opportunity to experience the facilities in the hotel and surrounding area.
I do hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back on your next trip to Ireland.
Kind Regards,
Dermot Comerford,
General Manager
