Our host, John Yates, was charming and informative and fun. The manor house was so welcoming and warm. Always a peat fire in the fireplace. There is a beautiful tree-covered drive from the road to the house. There are about 15 rooms. Ours had a balcony overlooking a gorgeous garden of flowers, bushes and roses with a stone wall all around and pathways in between. The garden had many birds which we could hear as soon as we opened the door. The room was very large and included a good sized table for eating or working.

The bar was friendly & sooo cozy. There is a restaurant with delicious food in the evening and/or smaller meals in the bar. Everything my husband and I ate was really delicious. A complimentary breakfast was there in the morning. Cereals, muesli, fruit, juice, and more were on the table to choose whatever you wanted. They provided tea or coffee and then the breakfast menu arrived. The Irish Fry was exceptional, freshly cooked to order. Other options were available also.

All in all this is such a beautiful spot in Ardara in Donegal Co. you cannot miss .... and then it even gets better. Thanks John for a great week!!!

This is our 3rd or 4th time here and it is the best B&B we have been to. That is why we make an effort to come back each time we visit Ireland.

Room Tip: All the rooms that we have had here were large and comfortable and with a bathroom.

Myself and my partner love Country House Hotels, we find them romantic and cosy. We were welcomed into a warm lounge with an open fire where a man was playing the piano while guests had a few drinks. This was afternoon/early evening time so I thought it was a nice touch to have entertainment on so early in the day.

The only downside was that we probably got the worst room (as it was the only one available). It felt a little damp and we asked for the heating on so it was warm. The bed was a little lumpy, I still managed to sleep soundly, but I'm a heavy sleeper and could sleep anywhere! I was also exhausted from the day we had. The decor of the room was quaint and we liked the look of the hotel and grounds (there are gorgeous gardens), and it was good value so we didn't let the small issues with the room mar our stay. The staff were welcoming and warm; and the service good.

We originally booked food at the hotel, but then cancelled to go somewhere in the village as we read a good review, we wished we had eaten at the hotel as the pub we ate in wasn't great and when we returned from our travels for the day we saw people seated in the dning room and the food going in looked fabulous. We had a lovely breakfast the next morning.

Had a lovely 2 night break here last weekend, enjoying the relaxed vibe and gourmet food.

We had a garden view room which opened into a delightful walled garden. Each room had a patio or balcony with a table and chairs. Our room was very large, comfortable, bright and nicely furnished in neutral tones. There is a fridge, coffee/tea facilities and a wet room. The tv in the bedroom is limited to 3 channels and wifi is only available in the reception area - not a big problem for us.

If I was to nit pick, it would be nice to have some paintings on the walls, as the bedrooms were a little bland.

The main house where breakfast and dinner are taken is charming with lovely rich decor and many fab paintings to look at and books left around for guests to browse. At night candles are lit in the bar and dining rooms which creates an atmospheric and calming ambience.

We had the 3 course dinner one evening and while a little pricey at 38 euro per person, the food was fantastic and I had the best meal of my life here. I highly recommend the cashew blue cheese tartlet - it is to die for!

All in all we had a great experience staying here and look forward to returning sometime soon.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are very quiet, but rooms in the main house may have more character.

Woodhill House is located just outside Ardara (about a 10 minute walk) on a beautifully wooded estate. The main house is elegant and welcoming. We had an excellent pub meal in the bar - and wished we hadn't had a big lunch so we could have had the enticing 3-course meal offered at a reasonable price. The owners were very hospitable and informative. Our room was in an annex with a lovely little terrace looking into the garden. It was clean and quiet, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was updated and very nice. The room was very plain, however. I would suggest adding some art and some brightly colored rugs to make it more appeal.

We stayed for two nights last week and did not want to leave. We had a lovely room in the converted coach house that opened up into a beautiful rose garden. We had dinner at Woodhill one night which included some local oysters that may have been the best I have ever had. The chef is french-trained and puts out delicous meal. The owner, John, is great with travel tips and the bar onsite is a quite place to sit after a day of hiking. Adara is a perfect location for touring the country side and the town has numerous pubs with live music. Woodhill house is a easy walk into town.

This was a very late booking for a 2 night stay in August & whilst initial impressions on arrival were not favourable my wife & I grew to like this place more & more. This is an old style country house hotel with no leisure type facilities & will have more appeal to the more mature traveller or anybody looking for a quiet break away from it all. It is located in a lovely area & is only about a 10 minute walk to the nearby lively village of Ardara. We had a large bedroom which was part of a barn/stable conversion adjacent to the main house which retained a lot of character with wooden beams & a fireplace. If watching TV is important then this is not for you - the TV in our room was an old 12" model with only 3/4 local channels> The bathroom was lovely with a good quality electric shower.
We decided to dine in the restaurant on both nights which was a very good decision. Whilst the menu was not extensive the food we had was excellent. Service was very friendly & the owner John) was quite helpful with advices on what to see/do locally. Overall this was a very good experience although a little on the expensive side.
