This is a great country house hotel.
Full of charm and character, perfect for a short stay to explore the amazing sites and countryside that Donegal has to offer. The hotel is far removed from the hussle and bussle of town life, if you want a peacefull and picture postcard getaway then this is for you. I stayed in a superior room which was well worth the upgrade, great sized room with freestanding bath and seperate shower. My room also had a seperate room for a four legged friend complete with dog bed. Love this and a great selling point for those people who like to travel with their doggy companions.
Food was very good and the staff were friendly and helpfull.
The only negetive was the size of the TV, on the small side to say the least.
All in all clean and tidy countryhouse, certainly one of the best that ive stayed in and well worth a look.
I stayed on business and found it relaxing and perfect for my needs.

Room Tip: Superior rooms have room for dogs, suggest booking well in advance to reserve these

My husband an I stayed in Rathmullan house for one night in August. First impression was a lovely drive leading up by the lake and front gardens. Reception area very small, crowded and outdated. Our room was lovely and spacious with a lovely blue freestanding bath in the bathroom. Airy and bright room with big window French doors, lovely couch area overlooking the gardens. The pool was very disappointing and outdated. Dinner was fantastic experience but when we wanted to retire to the downstairs bar for an after dinner drink we were put off as there was a loud group of people and no bar staff serving us. We ordered breakfast to the room but it wasn't great, poached egg and cooked breakfadt very cold and boring, regretted not going down for breakfast.the price was the biggest letdown it was not really good value for money.we wouldn't really stay again

Staff - amazing, food - delicious, hotel - wonderful, location - superb, ambience - relaxing and friendly. We stayed for three nights at Rathmullan House with another couple and had a marvellous time. We were there as two couples, but this hotel is suitable for all ages. I hope to return one day.

Location perfect, beach wonderful, old house gorgeous. But avoid staying in the 1980s extension. Room needs serious redecorating and not worth the 200 we paid for it. Was very disppointed . Dated curtains , carpets , sliderobes, rusted patio furniture , lino on bathroom floor, stained couch. Had the feeling of Dallas / cheap package holiday in spain not country house manor .

Family run hotel with excellent service and friendly staff. Our room (superior) was large and airy. Food fantastic - our evening meal was best we had in a long time and serving teas/ coffee and petit fours in lounge with turf fires was a lovely finish

We have dined at rathmullan house several times both in the Weeping Elm and the Cellar bar. The Weeping Elm is much more formal but always of a very high standard. Being able to have a drink first in one of the beautiful hotel rooms with a roaring fire is lovely too. The last time we went ,there were 9 of us and we ate in the Cellar bar. The highlights were the calamari with a hint of chilli and the steak which melted in the mouth. On a previous visit I have had the mussels which were the nicest I have ever eaten. The Cellar bar is casual and relaxing and the staff are very attentive. When we visited it was a beautiful sunny evening and we all sat outside and enjoyed the lovely grounds. Would thoroughly recommend.

I booked a table for five people (including an elderly parent) for Sunday lunch. I was offered downstairs seating which was changed to the ground floor due to the stairs.
On arrival, we were directed to the reserved table - and that was what we got - a well worn, wooden table with five chairs and a reserved sign on top! It was than that we all realised that Sinday lunch was not served - just 'bar food'. What a shame we were not informed of this on booking. After much questioning of the staff we discovered that we were in Batt's bar and the menu on offer was from the downstairs Cellar. We all ordered - one alcoholic drink, two soft drinks, two starters, five main courses, four deserts and one coffee. We were given some bread while we waited for our food.
The food was fine - for bar food - and if we had gone out for bar food instead of Sunday lunch, we probably would have been reasonably satisfied. The quality of food was average.
I have to say that the service staff were very pleasant and tried their best to make the best of a poor situation.
Then, the bill arrived - €146 for five people's bar food!!! Enough said.

Room Tip: If you want Sunday lunch, you won't get it here.
