“Fun to walk around”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

There is no tours here . You are free to walk around the structure as you please. Great time spent here. Not a lot of people were around so it was really nice.

“Definitely see while visiting the Rock of Cashel”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

A very short walk or drive from the Rock. You can see it from the Rock. It's free and you walk right into the ruins. My teenagers really loved being able to walk all around. There are some good views of the Rock as well.

“Peaceful Ruin”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

The Hore Abbey is a beautiful ruin. Whatever you learn about Cathedral at Rock of Cashel tour also applied here, The set up is almost exactly the same. It is wonderful to see or take picture of the Rock of Cashel from a different vantage point here.
It is a nice stroll down the hill. At the bottom of the hill turn right and follow the road, then turn at the first left. After 5 minutes , there is a cow gate on your left, go through the gate. The Abbey is just straight ahead. Since the Abbey is almost always in sight, it is quite easy to reach even without any signage.
I would not recommend walking through the field (we did on our way back) since you have to walk in a slower pace to avoid cow patties! It was a soft messy field!

“Not What The Sorted Mind May Think”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

This is NOT An Abbey for Medieval WaywardWomen. This is a Holy Place, well worth a 15 minute walk down the hill from Cashel Castle as either a religious experience or a great photo op. I took all my photos through a telephoto lens as the stairs at Cashel did my back in. It is also accessible from some lower side roads not published. A very small parking lot and trip across some fields previously mentioned by other reviwers. The bovine are care-less about their bathroom habits so, you will have to choose your steps carefully. But, in my mind- worth the trip. Great photos. If you ever envisioned the consummate Abbey In Ruins for a paperback book or hardback Novel- THIS. Would be the place!
You can also get a lot closer by booking your nights stay at Peggy O'Neils B&B, the Abbey is in their backyard.

“See while you are at the Rock of Cashel (at bottom of hill)”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

From Dublin you can go without paying a high price for a tour. Get a bus ticket (and schedule) from the Bus Eireann in Dublin for a round trip ticket to Cahir on bus X8. This will be a full day trip from Dublin. Get off the the bus in Cashel (you will get back on the bus at the same stop to continue to Cahir with same ticket) and walk 15 minutes to the Rock of Cashel. Walk up hill from the bus stop (the direction the bus came) and turn left to castle. After the castle tour if fit and want to visit Hore Abbey (watch for cow pattys), walk out the front and down to the rock wall (on right) and go through first cattle gate on right (not through gate that has sign "beware of bull", walk along fences to the walk through the fence (on right) and walk through field toward road at bottom of hill. Steep steps to reach road, walk along road to cattle gate and walk to Hore Abbey. Catch bus on to Cahir and walk around on top of castle walls.
