O'Briens Cashel Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 18, 2012

This place is like staying in a piece of history with all of the modern conviences. The rooms were great, roomy comfortable. The views of the abbey ruins and cows was great. Didn't have the breakfast which you pay for extra due to a death in the owner's family. The Rock of Cashel can be seen from the lodge also.

After reading the reviews on this place – I couldn’t wait to get there and it was everything I imagined and more! The Lodge is extremely easy to find and there is plenty of parking. You can get a private room or hostel type rooms with bunk beds and they even a camping ground. We were welcomed by their daughter (Jane?), a very lovely lady. She showed us to our room (#9) and we were truly impressed. This room is lovely, beautifully decorated, lots of space, closet and private bathroom. When I looked out the window, I was shocked by the view – looking directly at the Hore Abbey! We didn’t even notice that we didn’t have a TV in our room until later that evening when we came back from dinner. The closet was large with plenty of hangers and the bathroom is modern and very clean. We enjoyed hot showers in the morning – great way to start our day. You are no more than a ten minute walk to the Rock of Cashel or the stores and restaurants in town and the Abbey is really right across the street! There is no breakfast served here, but they have a common room for the guests with a couple of couches, TV, kitchen area with a couple of tables, frig, microwave, stove, so you could cook meals there if you wanted to. We elected to eat breakfast at the Bake House on the recommendation of Tom and we loved it! Even after we checked out (10:30 a.m.), Brid said it would be fine to leave our car parked on their property there while we toured the Rock of Cashel (saving us a parking fee) and the Hore Abbey. For us, it was just a perfect day! Be aware that part of the Rock of Cashel is under repair and the scaffolding will be up for approx. the next 18 months until the work is done. It’s still very enjoyable. One sad note – the O’Brien family lost their beloved Westie, Holly, but in her place, they got a new puppy (at the time the name hadn’t been determined), an eight week old collie – just as sweet as can be! We wanted to take him home with us! I highly recommend this place – we will carry the beauty and peacefulness this place for many years to come and I truly hope to return there one day.

Room Tip: Get a private room - they are tastefully decorated and a great value.

Comfortable beds, friendly hosts, walking distance to The Rock and downtown Cashel (and the Buseirann stop to Cork or Dublin), but across the street from a cow field with placid bovines (stay on the concrete walkway or else!) with Hoar Abbey in the middle, which you wan wander through (free) as much as you'd like. The guests can use the kitchen and lounge downstairs, which is really great if you are travelling with someone with food allergies.

Our family of four (2 adults, 2 kids ages 10 & 13) stayed here. Great location. We had two rooms, next door to each other. A short walk to Hore Abbey and a short walk to The Rock of Cashel. Tom O'Brien, owner, was lovely. He was helpful and welcoming. This was a very family friendly place.

This was one of our favorite places we stayed while we traveled through Ireland! You can't beat the location-right at the base of the Rock of Cashel, the friendly hosts, the excellent rooms, and the over-all feeling of comfort when you are here. You can't miss out on this one!

Room Tip: We stayed in a private double bed room and we had the wing to ourselves--fantastic room!

My husband and I and our 4-year-old daughter stayed here for two nights. Big clean room, comfy beds, great shower, free Internet, two swings outside, friendly owners and sweet dog -- what more could a family want? No TV, so no option of early morning cartoons. Kitchen facilities helped us keep our food budget under control. Although the lodge isn't in the village proper, it is close enough and we walked everywhere without feeling that the lodge was too far away. Good value!

Room Tip: While the walls aren't paper thin, we could hear other guests and had to constantly tell our dau...
