Spent weekend at Carrickdale with 2 kids. First impressions were that it was bit out of date with decor. Girls at reception very friendly.
Room really big with kingsize bed and 2 singles. Again decor bit dated but everything was clean. Great TV channel for kids. Only problem was one reason for booking hotel was because of WIFI but it failed to work in room. Contacted reception who said problem was due to being close to border which didnt make sense.
The food was lovely and service was very good. Menu was quite varied even for kids.
The pool and adjoining facilities were excellent and even had outdoor hot tub. The gardens behind leisure area were really beautiful. Very relaxing to walk round and they even included crazy golf for the kids.
Hotel felt very homely and comfortable and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Even when the hotel was exceptionally busy the staff remained attentive and pleasant.
I have stayed in hotels that look better than the Carrickdale but could not compete with the homely atmosphere and friendly staff.
Definitely hope to go back.

A group of five people, including a teenager and a child, we had a most relaxing and enjoyable break at the Carrickdale recently. The hotel is comfortable and the staff are exceptionally friendly. There is a good variety of menus, the food tasty. The leisure facilities were excellent, very clean and well maintained. On the down side, we had a lot of difficulties with the wi - fi access, which varied greatly according to what part of the hotel we were in.
I am already looking forward to my next stay at the Carrickdale!

The Carrickdale is a large, old-fashioned hotel. The corridors are huge and rambling which added to its charm. The room me and my dad stayed in was very big with a nice front facing view. There were a few mix-ups with our room when we first arrived - we had to be moved 3 times! - but the staff could not be faulted for their friendliness and quickness in sorting this out. The room was a little old-fashioned with an ancient TV but clean and welcoming.

The hotel bar is so grand and cozy at the same time and the bar food was restaurant quality. We ate there both nights and our meals were lovely. We used the sauna and steam room in the spa as part of our complimentary service.

The breakfast in the morning was also lovely and recommended.

Overall, the staff were so friendly and polite, they were what made our stay so pleasant.

Stayed in this hotel with a group of friends as our final stop on a road trip around Ireland. The hotel is easily reached from Dublin on the M1 exit 20 and you really cannot miss it from here. The hotel seems somewhat dated but seems to be an extremely busy spot and popular. The rooms were nice slightly old fashioned but the beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean, however the smell of "Shake n Vac" when I entered our room first was somewhat stunning and overpowering had to open the window to prevent headache. We went to the Spa and it really is fabulous and the staff are remarkable extremely friendly, professional and great at their jobs and the spa itself is very relaxing with beautiful thermal suite and relaxation rooms, hot tubs etc. I would return here but believe the hotel should make some renovations to the rooms and bar etc. Also I thought the hotel seemed understaffed and staff seemed to be slightly stressed out during my stay in the bar for lunch, but the food was very quick and of excellent quality - however I have never really had vegetable soup that is not pureed in a restaurant... Well done to Serenity staff...

Stayed at Carrickdale with my bfr during Bank Holiday weekend. It was fantastic, relaxing break. The Hotel has many special offers and participates in Lidl breaks offer as well so great value all the way. The staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive, rooms were clean and comfy, some of them face the nearby road though so if that bothers you I'd advise asking for the one at the back. There is also a lovely little garden which is nicely maintained.
The weather wasn't good at the time we stayed but we werent bothered and made use of the leisure centre with swimming pool, bubble baths, steam room and a hammock ;) There is also wide range of spa treatments available.
There was a bit of mix up with our bill at the end but it was all dealt with promptly and professionally so again thumbs up. All in all, I am recommending the hotel to those who'd like to relax a bit, maybe go shopping to nearby Newry and simply have a good time without breaking the bank.

We stayed in the Carrickdale Hotel for 2 nights when travelliing to Newry, and were really impressed. From the moment we walked up to the reception desk, we felt really welcome. Every member of staff we came across were extremely pleasant. The room was very spacious, and had a number of facilities including a television, free wireless internet, tea and coffee. We decided to order room service both nights, which was very reasonably priced, and we didn't have to wait very long for it to arrive.
We had breakfast there both mornings also, which was a buffet style breakfast. There were a number of cereals, fruit, yogurts, pastries, juices, etc. A full Irish breakfast was also offered.
We had full use of the health and leisure facilities. The swimming pool was a nice size, and the outdoor hot tub was fantastic.
It is a great hotel to stay in if planning a trip up North. It's only about 3 miles from Newry, and we will definitely stay there again the next time we plan on going to Belfast.

Upon seeing the hotel from the motorway I was a little apprehensive about its appeal to me however when checking in the staff couldn't have been more friendly. There was only one thing that I would have an issue with and that was that 4 of us chose to share one room which was a VERY basic room - the room on its own for one night was €220 for all 4 which I thought in this day and age was exp (incl breakfast but not dinner). I have had weekend breaks incl. dinner (2 nights) in better accom for circa €89/€99. Having said that, the place was spotless and the staff were EXTREMELY helpful. The food was also fab especially the breakfast. Would go again if they had special weekend offers.
